Located in a quiet valley high in the Black Mountains, this traditional barn conversion makes an ideal base for couples wanting to enjoy the outdoors and explore the Brecon Beacons.
Gaze out across the Olchon Valley and the Black Mountains when you and your loved one retreat to this beautiful barn near Llanveynoe, close to the border between Wales and England. Nestled in magical surroundings, 12.5 miles from Hay-on-Wye and near the edge of Bannau Brycheiniog, also known as Brecon Beacons National Park, the one-bedroom, dog-friendly hideaway is a perfect choice for couples eager to get away from it all and spend time walking, canoeing or even pony trekking.
Open the door to the single-storey barn, which is set on a working farm. Unlace your walking boots in the utility area, where there is also a WC, and head through into the inviting lounge/diner, with its revealed beams and stonework. Lay a fire in the wood burner and light it on winter days so it brings a warming glow to the space. Find a film to enjoy on TV or make plans for the following day. Whip up tasty meals for two through in the kitchen, where you will find everything you need to help you, then set the table back through in the lounge/diner. At the end of each lovely day away, take a couple of steps up to enjoy a good night’s sleep in the king-size bedroom, which has an en-suite shower room. Have breakfast out in the enclosed garden on sunny mornings, gazing out towards the mountains as you sip your morning coffee. Cook supper on the BBQ later on and relax in the summer house over a glass of fizz.
Pack a picnic, plan your route and head off into the Black Mountains. Make your way up to Hatterrall Ridge to pick up Offa’s Dyke Path, which runs along much of the border of Wales and England. Visit the ruins of Grosmont Castle, 13 miles away.
