A beautiful off-grid barn in the heart of the Black Mountains, complete with log fired sauna & sublime natural surroundings. Breathtaking views, roaring woodburner and hill walks right from the door.

A wonderfully quirky off grid barn in the very heart of the hills. Views for miles, walking & cycling trails for the very keenest including a great stroll to the country pub, this one of a kind eco-barn will leave you captivated.

Lovingly handcrafted, you’ll find a hand made, rustic wood fired sauna in the grounds to enjoy, a windmill gently whirring to provide your electricity, a natural spring for the water and a log burner to keep you toasty. There is central heating and satellite wi-fi too…even a telly, all cleverly fed from off grid sources.

The living is pared back and open plan, big comfy sofas to sink into, views from the french doors for miles across the Black Mountains. A piano, plenty of local reads and games stretch entertainment beyond the television and a farmhouse table for laid back suppers with those you love. A quirky layout finds the bedrooms above reached from the outside steps, so best for families with independent children and really great for couples looking for a get away from it all romantic retreat.

The master bedroom nestled at the top of the barn houses an iron framed double and sumptuous bedlinen, plus some of the best views across the valley. There’s a triple bedroom with three single beds perfect for children, plus a handy basin in the room too. Outside, it’s big skies and great adventures, the Brecon Beacons National Park is on the doorstep, market towns of Abergavenny and Crickhowell are home to country pubs, fabulous local food festivals and great independent stores, the time will fly by!

  • 2 dogs allowed. Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week

Perfect peaceful retreat stunning surroundings extremely comfortable accommodation, facilities bed, sofa, settees, and with the log burner it comes together to create the perfect getaway break. We have already rebooked for another stay.

Hillside Barn is a perfect place to stay if you want to be surrounded by nature! Our family absolutely loved our week here - whether it was raining or sunny, the beauty and peace is incredible, and it allows you to completely relax and be absorbed by nature. Lovely and tranquil, beautiful views, excellent and idyllic location. Note offgrid really means this, so don't expect supermarket deliveries or great mobile signal. 3miles to local shops, 4x4 ideal but not necessary. Would definitely recommend for a romantic weekend. Not suitable for wheelchair or those with mobility issues.

Beautiful off grid barn conversion off the beaten track. Ideallic location with walks straight from the cottage. A perfect get away from it all retreat. The sauna and plunge pool were an added bonus. Perfectly set up for dogs as well, the garden is secure.

Very secluded cottage, isolated and peaceful. Great mountains to walk and views are spectacular. If you go when its rainy make sure you have good grip on your tyres as driveway can be a little tricky! Fully equipped and some great old books to look at and absolutely loved the big map of the area on the living room wall. The piano was great too. TheRead more bedroom is upstairs but cannot be accessed from inside but from a separate door outside up some steps which is great but could be a factor for some. Hide

A great little barn. Walks all around the area including some directly from the property . Dog friendly garden 50m2 ish, half on a slope and full of vegetation to give the dogs something to sniff and look out over the valley. Our dog was fascinated by the sheep in the field next door. The stock fencing kept our dog in nicely. (be aware it's topped Read morewith barbed wire for any jumpers!) When Blackthorn Cottage wasn't being used it felt like it was just us in the valley. Hide

A wonderful spot with loads of character! Brilliant location for cycling and hiking - didn't need to get into the car once after we arrived. The roads around are really quiet, the house is comfortable, and there is a nice sense of ease with nature whilst there.

We loved hillside barn. It was in an idyllic location and the site had been developed really creatively. Small but perfectly formed, the barn had everything we needed and walks straight from the door. The private woodland was lovely, especially for an early morning or evening walk. And we loved the outside access to the bedrooms, over a bridge lit Read morewith fairy lights. We heard a cuckoo in the mornings and there were Redstarts in the garden every day.
