Holiday off the beaten track at this cosy shepherd’s hut buried in the Pembrokeshire countryside. It’s located on a smallholding 3.5 miles from Narberth, a picturesque market town with multicoloured Edwardian and Georgian buildings lining the high street. The property is surrounded by peaceful rural views over fields and the meandering river Marlais. What’s more, you’ll have Boer goats and free-roaming chickens as your neighbours. With one double bed, it’s wonderful for a solo trip or a romantic stay with your partner.
Climb a small staircase up onto the entrance of this sweet abode and step inside to an open-plan layout cleverly incorporating a lounge, kitchen and sleeping area. After busy days in the fresh air, sink into the sofa and pop on the TV for some easy entertainment, creating some rustic warmth with the electric wood-burner effect fire. The bistro-style dining table sets you up for light meals prepared in the compact kitchen. At the far end, a full-size double bed beckons for a tranquil night’s sleep in this tranquil setting. In fine weather, you’ll no doubt spend time in the enclosed gravel courtyard, equipped with a BBQ and outdoor seating for summer feasts. The adjacent greenhouse is full of fresh produce which you’re welcome to help yourself to.
Your nearest pubs and cafés are in Narberth, which offers a variety of independent shops and art galleries. There’s also a market each Friday for picking up local produce and souvenirs. You won’t need the car for wonderful walks through the countryside and woodland, with trails starting right at your doorstep. When you’re craving some sea air, head to the golden sands of Amroth (6.5 miles) or plan a day out at the iconic Tenby (11 miles), a popular resort with four beaches and the remains of a 13th-century castle you can visit for free.
