Visit local bookshops and the local castle and relax with a cuppa in one of Hay’s many quirky cafes (all within 0.5 miles). Or, if the hills are calling, head out wonderful treks through the Brecon Beacons National Park. The house is a wonderful blend of old and new and with room for four, is wonderful for a family wishing to immerse themselves in culture and nature.
Inside this cosy cottage, you’ll notice plenty of original features like gorgeous dark wood ceiling beams and exposed stonework. The decor is cheerful and in homage to the town in which it stands, has a literary theme. In the evenings, relax with your fellow guests in the open-plan living area, a gorgeous space with quality wooden flooring and a wood burner for keeping cosy during the chillier months. A separate snug room contains an extensive library plus board games. In the recently refurbished kitchen, cook up yummy meals, perhaps using local produce picked up at Hay’s market (Thursdays). Outside, the sweet garden is a fantastic spot for al fresco meals using the wooden furniture provided. Being part of a terrace of cottages, the private enclosed garden area is accessed from the back door, via a set of steps and along the edge of the neighbours garden area.
There’s plenty to do nearby, with a wild swim spot just 0.5 miles away at the Warren, along with other water-based activities like kayaking, canoeing and paddleboarding on the River Wye. When it comes to hiking, there are two national trails passing through the town: the Offa’s Dyke Path and the Wye Valley Walk, so you won’t be short of options. The region is also wonderful for pony trekking, mountain biking and rock climbing.
