A remote, peaceful and traditional farmhouse in the River Irfon valley at the foot of Cefn Alltwinau in the Cambrian Mountains, while only 2 miles from the amenities of  Llanwrtyd Wells.

Step off the beaten track in this secluded property, surrounded by the undiscovered beauty of the Cambrian Mountains. The farmhouse sleeps six guests, making it perfect for a peaceful family getaway or a walking holiday with friends. Brimming with period charm, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time the minute you set foot inside the farmhouse. Enjoy remote walks from the front door, as well as fishing on the banks of the River Irfon. The quaint town of Llanwrtyd Wells is 2.5 miles away.

A 1-mile track, shared with the farm, leads to the property. Once inside, you’ll be captivated by its Welsh charm, with beautiful, exposed beams, open fire, and sash windows. At the heart of the cottage is an open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner which lends itself to cosy nights in, enjoying delicious food with friends and family. There’s also a separate lounge, where you can unwind with a good book or watch a film on the TV. Cottage-style stairs lead to the first floor and the four charming bedrooms, all of which look out over open countryside. Outside, soak up the Welsh sunshine with a few drinks in the walled garden or enjoy a peaceful riverside stroll, looking out for red kites soaring overhead.

The Cambrian Mountains are quite spectacular. As well as the rugged landscape and rare wildlife, you’ll also be able to immerse yourself in Welsh-speaking communities and embrace the country’s rich culture. Head to Llanwrtyd Wells, the smallest town in Wales, to sample some of the Welsh cuisine and learn about the town’s fascinating history at the heritage centre. The town also has a busy calendar of quirky events, including the Bog Snorkelling Championships! Irfon Forest, just outside the town, is ideal for families, with way-marked trails along the river and a gorgeous picnic area.

We had a lovely few days in the cottage. So remote, quiet and peaceful. It was a good base to explore the area without having to venture out in the car. The shop in the nearby village was adequately stocked for our simple needs. Plenty of walks around, mountains to climb, streams to splash in and a nice grassy area to play games in. Amazing location - remote but perfect if you are looking for peace and quiet. Property is well equipped. There is wi-fi but can be variable in speed - but I would expect this given the location. Short walk to the Washpool - great space to swim and paddle - dog loved it! Friendly farmer next door and friendly local sheep! Bird watching is excellent.Read more There is nothing that the local garage shop doesn't stock - 15 min drive to main supermarket. The Trout Inn (Beulah) - great meals and very friendly. Hide

The perfect cottage. This is our second stay at Alltwinau and we (and the parrot) love it there. The cottage is secluded and remote with the most stunning views. We are keen birders and there is plenty to see on the feeders in the garden. Lots of wonderful local walks with the nearby Abergwesyn being a favourite. We had a fantastic stay at Alltwinau, helped by the glorious weather. We stayed with our three sons, aged 11, 9 & 3.
