Beautiful semi- detached mountain cottage

Walk for miles from the door, retreat back for cosy nights by the log burning stove, or barbeques under the immense night sky in the depths of the dramatic Brecon Beacons Dark Sky Reserve.

The Black Mountains stretch for miles around you, far reaching views of picturesque pine forests, a mountain river flowing gently past down below and a fabulous walk to the Grwyne Reservoir at the head of the valley, you can't fail to relax and unwind. Aptly named, the cottage is one of a pair of original foresters cottages deep in the Grwyne Valley, just off the famous Beacons Way, with walking and biking right from the door second to none.

In reach of market towns including Crickhowell, with butchers, independant stores and a useful mountaineering shop, Abergavenny, with regular markets, Michelin restaurants and one of the UK's best food festivals each September. A drive over the hill will find you in the pretty hamlet of Llanthony with ancient Priory and pony trekking. Or stride out from the door and take a peek at the historic hillside church of St Issui at Patrishow at the end of the valley, well worth the effort.

The accommodation offers TWO bedrooms: 2 king-size. Bathroom: with shower over bath and WC, on the ground floor. Lounge: with woodburner (a basket of logs included), TV, DVD, CD and radio. Kitchen/diner: well-equipped with Rayburn, electric oven and hob, microwave, coffee machine and washing machine. Outside: large enclosed garden with lovely views and decking area with BBQ and garden furniture. Amenities: parking for 2 cars. Bed linen, towels, electric, electric heating and Wi-Fi included (Wi-Fi is supplied by satellite and is only suitable for browsing). Regret no smoking. 2 dogs welcome. Additional info: Welcome basket provided on arrival. Arrival: 4pm

Dogs fees are charged per dog at £20.00 for up to 7 nights, £40.00 for up to 14 nights and an additional £20.00 for every week or part week thereafter.

A LOCAL PINT: The Crown at Pantygelli is a good local pub just 15 minutes away, or try The Dragons Head in Llangenny, further down the River Grwynne and a great spot to watch the salmon leaping upstream in the autumn.

SMART GRUB: Monmouthshire is the food capital of Wales, the Walnut Tree Inn, 25 minutes away, has won a Michelin star and is perfect for a special meal. More laid back, although equally great food can be found at The Hardwick, Foxhunter, Nant-y-Ffin or Crown at Whitebrook...lots of choice and links to be found in our Things to Do pages, booking recommended.

PONY TREKKING: A great way to discover the hills, there is a trekking centre in Capel-y-Ffin, as well as in Llangattock.

CYCLING & WALKING: Directly out the door you'll find hours of trails to explore by foot or pedal. If you enjoy cycling, bring them all, cyclo-cross / MTB and road, as there really is something special for every day. Nearby MBT centre has trails running very close by to the cottage and there are is a large network of trails criss-crossing the surrounding forest, which is thoroughly enjoyable for adults and children alike. Bike hire is available in Abergavenny and Hay on Wye.

TOWNS: Abergavenny, The Gateway to Wales, with its castle, shops and restaurants is 20 minutes. The Cathedral cities of Brecon and Hereford, with the Mappa Mundi as well as Hay on Wye, with its famous Hay Festival, all make great day trips. Or nip into the lovely village of Crickhowell for a decent morning coffee.

HISTORY: St Issui at Patrishow is a lovely local church to visit, there is a forest trail through the woods which will take you there, it's apx 5-6 miles round trip walking, contouring most of the way along the hillside. Llanthony Priory has a pub within its walls and the three historic castles, Grosmont, Skenfrith and White Castle make a great day out exploring the stunning Monmouthshire countryside and Raglan Castle has a cafe and well worth a stop off, when heading out towards the Wye Valley. There are some lovely walking trails marked out along the way.

SLEEPING 2-4: Two upstairs king-size bedrooms, each with pretty cotton bed linen, duvets and hand knitted blankets. A cot and highchair can be provided if needed

RELAXING: Cosy cottage sitting room with wood burner, basket of logs provided, two large sofas, Welsh blankets, TV with free-Sat, DVD player, CD player and Radio. Wi-Fi available, which is supplied by satellite and is only suitable for browsing.

EATING IN: Well equipped kitchen, with Rayburn, normal electric oven and hob, microwave, coffee machine for espresso and cappuccino, washing machine, basics included (tea, coffee, sugar, salt and pepper, olive oil etc.). Farmhouse table and chairs and a welcome basket on arrival.

WHAT OUR GUESTS SAY

Amy, 15th February 2019

Beautiful cosy cottage in a stunning location.

Stuart, 21st December 2018

The cottage is in a great location on the hillside looking down the valley with amazing views, especially at sunrise. A very peaceful place apart from the sound of the stream running below the cottage. The cottage itself is very warm and homely and has all the facilities/gadgets you need. The water pressure is low as it is fed by a natural spring sRead moreo the shower is not very powerful and the hot water gets very hot. A great weeks holiday at Christmas and we will be returning. Jessica, 26th October 2018

A fantastic stay in the middle of lots of walking routes. Would definitely come back again.

Heather, 13th July 2018

Beautiful cottage with views to match. Great location with room for the dogs to play. Good local walks, nearest main supermarket 20 minutes away. Main gate to the cottage is shared with next door, and they access their property around the back of this holiday cottage. There was no phone signal and WiFi was limited. Building work was on going in theRead more barn next to the cottage, so peace and privacy was limited. However, the neighbours are extremely friendly and are lovely people. Hide

Ralph, 29th June 2018

A lovely remote cottage with beautiful views down the valley from the good-sized patio area, which catches the sun for most of the day. The cottage is very well equipped and very comfortable.

Debbie , 8th June 2018

Great holiday again but the builders next door broke the peace of the place and kept leaving the gate open which was a pain because we have a small dog.

Melinda, 28th May 2018

Wonderful Away from it all location, great for walks. Best to arrive with provisions as a bit of a drive to any shops but the Welcome pack was delicious. The cottage was spotless and very well equipped. The views are gorgeous.

Kelty, 11th May 2018

It was a lovely cottage, ideal location for a getaway break. However, unfortunately there are builders there during the week working on the neighbours barn, which meant it wasn't as peaceful as it should have been and no privacy in the garden while they were there.
