The Black Mountains stretch for miles around you, far reaching views of picturesque pine forests, a mountain river flowing gently past down below and a fabulous walk to the Grwyne Reservoir at the head of the valley, you can't fail to relax and unwind. Aptly named, the cottage is one of a pair of original foresters cottages deep in the Grwyne Valley, just off the famous Beacons Way, with walking and biking right from the door second to none. Retreat back for cosy nights by the log burning stove, or barbeques under the immense night sky in the depths of the dramatic Brecon Beacons Dark Sky Reserve.

In reach of market towns including Crickhowell, with butchers, independant stores and a useful mountaineering shop, Abergavenny, with regular markets, Michelin restaurants and one of the UK's best food festivals each September. A drive over the hill will find you in the pretty hamlet of Llanthony with ancient Priory and pony trekking. Or stride out from the door and take a peek at the historic hillside church of St Issui at Patrishow at the end of the valley, well worth the effort.

Approach the pretty doorway and step into this cosy cottage, with a welcoming lounge to your left, offering a warming wood burner, Smart TV and comfy sofas. The kitchen is to your right and is well-equipped for your break away. The Rayburn takes centre stage and heats the space beautifully, with a dining table in the middle of the room and a sofa in the corner where you can witness the chef at work!  Towards the back of the property on the ground floor you will find a handy boot room where you can hang wet coats and access the rear pathway through the back door - ideal for soggy paws after long walks! There is also a family bathroom. Heading upstairs, you will find two king-size bedrooms with spectacular mountain views. An ideal place to retreat to after a day exploring the local area.

Outside, there is a wonderful paved patio area to the front of the cottage where you can soak up views of the Black Mountains with a cup of coffee on a picnic bench. The steps leads down to the large enclosed garden with lovely trees, flowers and decking area with garden furniture in the summer. There is parking available for 2 cars.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Nice and quiet. No mobile signal. If you want to try making mobile call, turn on Wi-fi calling No pubs or shops in walking distance. And very narrow roads, so be prepared to do a lot of reversing.

Great location if you like being away from it all with no mobile reception and lovely views. Walks in the forest straight from the door, our dog loved it. Not sure if it is normal but it was 5 degrees colder at cottage than in Abergavenny. It is quite a trek back to the main road to go anywhere but Abergavenny and Crickhowell both worth a visit. LoRead morevely comfy beds but the rest of the property would benefit from being updated. Hide

We loved it so much. Very isolated which is what we had hoped for. A big contrast to our mad, London life. Beautiful views over the valley. Lots of unusual birds and lots of sheep. Rivers and brooks. Water supply comes straight off the mountain spring. The lovely stone cottage was perfect for us. We didnt want to leave.

Great cottage, very well equipped with comfy beds & views are amazing. Very secluded & quiet, nothing but birdsong & sheep. Quite a mission to get to food shop so ensure you have plentiful supplies! A real escape from normality! Loved it.

The cottage is in a remote "get away from it all" location, set in beautiful countryside, with only the sound of the birds, the sheep and the stream in the valley below. It has a large family kitchen and fantastic views from the patio in front of the property. Dog friendly but need to be aware the approach from the road up to the cottage is throughRead more a field of sheep. Hide
