This adorable yurt is the ultimate, luxury outdoor escape. It's incredibly cosy inside, with sheepskin rugs, warm Welsh wool blankets and an enormous wood burning stove kicking out lots of heat, as well as boiling the water for your morning cuppa!

In a spectacular location, a short drive from one of our favourite mountain towns, Crickhowell and a short river walk to the local pub. This yurt was originally designed for the owners to live in, so they have picked the very best spot on the 50 acres plot to pitch it. With amazing views and an eye for detail ensuring every comfort is taken care of.

Literally off the beaten track, the yurt is set just below a hill-farm, completely private and unseen from the country lanes, you can really escape modern day life and worry about little else than catching some trout in the river, stoking the fire and finishing your book. Pass by the friendly cows and new apple orchard en-route, once there you just won't want to leave, the view is simply beautiful.

Set on a wooden base to ensure the yurt stays warm and dry, there is local master craftsmanship and a commitment to recycling on show throughout. With a hand-made, oak double bed, hand-made "kitchen" worktop and fabulous large dining table and benches, made from wood cut from the surrounding land.

Step across the track to your own hand painted shepherd hut, with an old fashioned claw foot bath and piping hot running water ensuring you can luxuriate in a long soak, with a view, at the end of the day. There is a basin and loo too, with another wood burner in the bathroom to ensure you keep really cosy.

The mountain biking and walking is second to none and should you get tired of all that greenery (!), then the famous book town of Hay on Wye is just thirty minutes away, the market town of Abergavenny with its fabulous food festival is ten minutes drive, Crickhowell is just 5 minutes down the lane and the village pub is easily reached on an afternoon walk.

If this yurt is booked for the dates you're looking for, then take a peak at the other two equally beautiful yurts on the same complex (pet friendly), both equally beautiful.

Dogs fees are charged per dog at £20.00 for up to 7 nights, £40.00 for up to 14 nights and an additional £20.00 for every week or part week thereafter.

WILD SWIMMING: There is a great plunge pool in the river which flows down below the yurt. As it's all private land you can swim and fish in the river during your stay, as well as chop wood and generally get back to nature. There is a huge wood store available for you, should you not want to expend quite so much energy!

WALKING & CYCLING: Set in the Brecon Beacons National Park, you are surrounded by the beautiful Black Mountains, with endless trails directly from the door. Mountain bike hire can be arranged for delivery to the door, or bring your own and storage can be made available.

EATING: The local village of Llanbedr has a local pub, which can be reached on foot, with a pretty country lane and riverside trail. Crickhowell is the nearest town with several country pubs, pet friendly, The Bear being the oldest and most popular. For posher nosh, then the Nanty-ffin Inn is worth a trip, as is the Hardwick in Abergavenny. Heaps of inspiration on our Things to Do Pages...all tried and tested by the team - tough job!

TOWNS: The lovely little town of Crickhowell, with butchers, a baker, post office and independent shops is 5 minutes drive down the hill. Abergavenny is within 15 minutes with it's farmers market and September Food Festival. Or try the famous book town of Hay on Wye, just 30 minutes and a treasure trove of independant stores and thirty or so book shops. It has the added benefit of being on the River Wye, which is great for paddling on the Warren on a summers day, or renting a canoe for some watery adventure.

RIDING: Lots of local trekking centres within 10-20 minutes drive and some of the best riding trails in the country The Golden Valley riding centre is just a few miles away for fabulous trekking in the hills, or try Triley Fields Equestrian for lessons and a great cross country course, again, lots more details can be found in our things to do pages.

DURING YOUR STAY: It's well worth checking out the "This Month We Love" Pages on the Sugar & Loaf site, our top picks of what's on in the area continually updated throughout the month

SLEEPS 2 - 6: A fabulous romantic yurt with a hand-made oak double bed, cosy Welsh blankets, proper bed linen and two additional beds with fresh linen, sleeping another four people.

EATING: Large living space, with "kitchen" worktop with gas hob and all the pots and pans you need. Huge wood burning stove which when stoked up is hot enough to provide an additional cooking source. Huge fire pit outside for camp fire cooking. There is a fridge cage in the river, keeping food cool in water proof containers. There is a proper hand-made dining table inside the yurt and a table and benches outside the yurt too.

KEEPING CLEAN: There is a shepherds hut next door with a claw foot bath, basin and loo. Piping hot running water on tap too, as well as fresh towels provided. A wood burning stove in the bathroom too ensuring you don't get chilly. There is also a plunge pool in the river for the more adventurous!

GET AWAY FROM IT ALL: Black Mountains Yurt is an "off grid" holiday, however you can get mobile reception just a minute up the lane from the yurt and you are a 5-10 minute stroll from the local pub should you fancy someone else doing the cooking!

PETS: Well behaved dogs are very welcome, there is livestock on the farm, so please take care.

Very nice cottage in an old big house, but the cottage has a new kitchen and new bathrooms. Close to a beautiful coastline and the snowdon area. A bit further on the street there is a small private campsite where we could swim in the river. Sue, the host, was so nice and helpful. Thank you!

My partner and I stayed for a week with our dogs. If you're looking for a rural location where you can enjoy the simplicity of life, I cannot recommend this place enough. The owners, Emily and Keith were so kind and accomodating. We had plenty of room to enjoy uninterrupted time together and I don't think I've enjoyed a holiday this much in about 1Read more0 years. If I could, I'd grab all my animals and live in the yurt. Genuinely, it was that good. Hide

Idyllic. A peaceful, private haven with just the sound of the river and the birds. The Yurt is beautiful inside and very comfortable. Perfect location. Would highly recommend - it's paradise!

Alicia, 12th April 2018

It was an absolutely amazing place to get back to basics and get in touch with nature. To awake to the sound of the raging river and birdsong was incredible. Em and Keith, the hosts, were absolutely lovely and very helpful and welcoming - they even let us use their jeep to transport our things up and down the hill (as my campervan wasn't great withRead more hills). It was lovely to have space to ourselves instead of lots of accommodation all being crammed into one space. We will be back! Hide
