  • A charming half timbered Grade II listed 16C cottage with stunning views across the countryside
  • Within walking distance of the River Wye and market town of Hay on Wye
  • Enjoying a private location with immediate access onto the Offa’s Dyke footpath
Property code: 78078

Simply charming and full of character, this Grade II listed cottage sits peacefully below a small hamlet on a private lane off  the Offa’s Dyke footpath offering stunning views across the countryside, perfect for small families and couples whatever the time of year.

This stunning 16th-century property is located in the peaceful hamlet of Bronydd on the Wales/England border. The idyllic setting makes it the perfect place to unwind, with beautiful countryside views and surrounded by charming cottage gardens. The Offa’s Dyke Path passes the property, and you can follow it across fields and along the riverbank to the quaint market town of Hay-on-Wye (approx. 2 miles), famed for its literary heritage. Explore the town’s fascinating bookstores before heading to The Warren for a spot of wild swimming in the river.

The Grade-II listed property is packed with original features, including limestone plastered walls, exposed beams, and flagstone floors. The interior cleverly combines rustic charm with luxurious touches to make your stay feel extra special, such as an induction hob and Aga in the kitchen and cosy underfloor heating in the lounge. At the end of the day, relax in the inviting lounge to watch a film on the SkyTV/DVD and warm your toes in front of the roaring wood burner. On a summer’s evening, potter around the established garden and wander down to the babbling brook, before dining on the terrace and admiring the views across the Wye Valley. Enjoy a restful soak in the original claw foot bath before bed.

The picturesque town of Hay-on-Wye is bursting with culture. Be sure to make time to explore the fantastic selection of independent shops and boutiques, including the 30 bookstores! To get a different perspective of the town, hire a canoe and enjoy a peaceful jaunt along the River Wye. On your travels, stop off at The Warren – the riverside pebble beach – for a little picnic and a dip in the river. If you’re a keen photographer, you must head to Llanthony Priory (14 miles). The atmospheric 13th-century ruins are simply breathtaking, particularly at dawn or dusk. It’s also a fantastic place for stargazing. Please note dogs will need to be supervised in the garden, are not allowed upstairs and not left unattended in the property at any time

Chapel cottage is absolutely beautiful, more spacious than expected and really homely. Despite the wether being dodgy we had a wonderful stay. Lots of walks for the dog and internet for the son! The little welcome touches were very much appreciated and if you happen to be travelling with a vegan we found plenty of options locally.

The cottage is really very lovely, quiet, comfortable and I imagine very cosy in the winter time. We had glorious weather and sat outside and the garden is just beautiful with the scent of roses and a very pastoral view - with sheep grazing. The walk along Offa's Dyke path is well worth doing. The cottage is also very well placed for trips to Hay.
