Period townhouse with hot tub in Montgomery with its eateries and attractions. Perfect to unwind and explore the culture, activities and countryside on the borders of Shropshire and Mid Wales

Enjoy the best of all worlds when you stay at this gorgeous Welsh townhouse that blends the old and the new with finesse. Suitable for a group holiday, the sumptuous, five-bedroom property, which dates back to the 1700s, can accommodate up to 10 guests and five of their canine companions. In a great location for getting out and about in Shropshire and Mid Wales, the exquisite property also comes with a private hot tub.

Open the front door to find an abundance of period features including exposed floorboards, brickwork and beams. Wander from the hall into the spectacular, open-plan lounge/diner/snug, where you can spread out to light the wood burner, watch the Smart TV, play games and enjoy meals together. Discover the kitchen/diner is just as stunning but has a more contemporary style. Prepare meals in here, gather round the table and pull open the bi-folding doors so everyone can spill outside. There is also a utility room on the ground floor, together with two WCs. Venture up to the first floor to choose between a super-king-size room, with en-suite wet room; a super-king-size, with en-suite shower room and beds that can be arranged in advance as twins; two king-sizes, with en-suite shower rooms; a continental king-size with en-suite bathroom. Make the most of your outside space to sizzle supper on the BBQ on balmy evenings and bubble in the hot tub after long days out. Parking is on the town square, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Stroll the charming streets of Montgomery, browsing in shops and selecting places to dine out. Visit the castle, museum and brewery. Follow enchanting footpaths and cycle trails from the town out into the scenic countryside. Pick up a section of the Offa’s Dyke Path which follows the border between England and Wales.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Property located in great spot central Montgomery, lots of lovely walks accessible on foot. Convenient local Spa shop for any essentials. Would recommend local restaurant in Dragon Inn Hotel just across the square. Spacious, comfortable, clean property with nice real fire, we enjoyed our family break plenty of room for everyone.

A lovely, comfortable, well appointed house located in the centre of a small, peaceful and friendly town. The location was great for exploring the local area with a good selection of walks straight from the door plus a small shop and two pubs on the doorstep.

We had a fabulous stay at The Checkers August 2021. Mix of adults and teenage boys. Lots to do in the area (white water rafting, rally karting, pony trekking. Montgomery walks and castle are excellent). The house is really well equipped and comfortable and lends itself well to in-house catering, evening games and sitting round the fabulous fire. Its a beautiful, spacious, dog friendly house and location. There are lots of nice little shops, pubs and walks to do locally and the owners were really helpful with recommendations but also didn't disrupt at all when cleaning the hottub daily. We had a fantastic stay at Checkers! It is an old restaurant converted into a holiday stay so it has so much space! As a general summation, I think everyone in our group would highly recommend Checkers. The property was great; loads of downstairs space, good sized rooms, convenient location for local amenities and not too far from a number of things to see and do. The lack of signal / poor WI-FI was probably the biggest challenge to overcome.

Wonderful space for a large family. The pistachio biscuits left for us were great. We ordered food from the owner for the Friday evening and it was so good. Lovely walks.
