Escape with your friends and family to this fabulous, converted barn, nestled in a magical and leafy setting, close to the border between England and Wales. Set on a 60-acre farm, deep within the beautiful Forest of Dean, the inviting, two-bedroom abode, which dates back to the 1600s, welcomes up to four guests. One of several, individual holiday homes on the unique site, which includes gardens and woods, plus fields, where you can see rescued wild animals, the property offers use of the shared outdoor pool during the spring and summer months which is solar heated during July and August

Enter this delightful country retreat and find yourselves in a homely, open-plan, farmhouse-style kitchen/diner, with painted stone walls. Here you can whip up tasty meals for your party then dine together at the wooden table. Wander on through the ground floor to discover a king-size bedroom, with an en-suite with shower room. Climb the stairs to emerge in a stylish lounge up on the mezzanine level. Watch TV or a DVD up here or simply gaze out at the view through the picture window. A super-king-size bedroom is also situated on the first floor: this also benefits from an en-suite bathroom. Wander the exquisite farm grounds to your heart’s content and have a dip in the pool from the end of April to the end of September. Find parking for two cars with the barn.

Head out for long walks through the valley in which the farm is situated. Explore the Forest of Dean, where you can go cycling, mountain biking and kayaking or canoeing. Also make the most of your proximity to the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which begins less than 1 mile away. See famous historic sites, such as Tintern Abbey, 20 miles away, and closer to home, Goodrich Castle, 4 miles away.

We had a wonderfully relaxing week, despite the weather not being of the best. Highlights were watching the animals and going out after dark to see the magical lanterns hanging everywhere (we're going to get some for our garden!). Lindsey and Frank were helpful and friendly hosts and we enjoyed seeing Lindsey walking around with a baby wallaby in tRead morehe pouch of her apron. Sadly we decided it was too chilly to swim in the pool (other guests were braver than us and seemed to enjoy the experience). Hide

What a fantastic break we had. Comfy cottage, welcoming hosts and the most amazing location. We spent more time just sitting watching the animals than we did out exploring the beautiful local area. I've never gone back to anywhere I've stayed before as I always want to try somewhere new but will definitely be coming back here. Absolutely love it.

Luxurious stone-walled cottage in an idyllic setting. There is a wonderful sense of being cradled in the gorgeous, lush valley, with the animal sanctuary adding a special touch. Lindsay and Frank are friendly and attentive hosts, and their love for the place and the animals is a pleasure to behold.

The cottage, part of an old building, had been tastefully restored with plenty of space, nice furnishings and some lovely pieces of sculpture. An excellent place to stay set in beautiful surroundings.

This is a very special location, with peace and quiet in abundance away from it all with the bonus of delightful hosts and many animals to look at. The pool looks lovely (in warmer weather) and an important part of why I booked the cottage. The cottage itself is quirky and beautifully furnished.
