Things to do include rock climbing, abseiling, gorge walking, rafting, archery, caving and Tregoyd riding stables and outdoor activity centre which is just at the foot of the mountain lane, with great trails across the hills to explore on. Not forgetting Wye Valley with its canoeing, shooting, river and lake fishing which is near Hay on Wye, home of the famous Hay Festival, with 30 bookshops, cafes and shops. WALKING: Fantastic walks in the surrounding Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons National Park are straight from the cottage door, you will be spoilt for choice.

COUNTRY PURSUITS: There are a host of outdoor centres near Hay on Wye. There is canoeing at Wye Valley Canoes, just down the hill, with the added bonus of a lovely restaurant, the River Cafe, right next door. Shooting, river and lake fishing are also available.

MOUNTAIN BIKES: The stunning walks surrounding you are also fabulous mountain bike rides, with a route for every level. Bikes can be hired (and delivered!) from nearby Hay on Wye.

RIDING: Tregoyd riding stables and outdoor activity centre is just at the foot of the mountain lane, with great trails across the hills to explore on two feet, or four!

SOMETHING DIFFERENT: For the more adventurous the list is endless with rock climbing, abseiling, gorge walking, rafting, canoeing, archery, caving and pot holing etc.

SOMETHING MORE SEDATE: Thankfully there are plenty of options for quieter days, such as exploring nearby Hay on Wye, famous for its annual Hay Festival of Literature and its countless bookshops, eateries and very local stores. The Cathedral town of Hereford is also 25 miles away.

TOP TIP: The Felin Fach Griffin is our favorite spot for delicious local food, much of it grown in the garden outside, it's approximately 15 minutes away and well worth booking a table for lunch. Nearer to the cottage is the River Cafe with delicious lunches and great coffee!

SLEEPS 6 + 2: Three bedrooms: a large king-size, en-suite master bedroom with additional single bed. A downstairs triple bedroom and a ground floor double bedroom. Cotton bedlinen, down duvets and fluffy towels included.

BATHING: Apart from the waterfall to be found in the garden for a bracing splash (!)...there are two bathrooms, an en-suite with roll top bath, basin and loo by the master bedroom and a ground floor bathroom with separate shower serving the other two bedrooms. Towels included. Hairdryer available.

RELAXING: There are two drawing rooms, both with open fires, cosy sofas and lovely views. Gadget wise, there is wi-fi, a television, DVD. Logs provided. If you're looking for something more 'sporty' to indulge in, maybe table tennis will help awaken the competitive spirit.

DINING: Large oak table seating eight to be found in "the old room", there is also an informal kitchen breakfast table.

COOKING: Handmade and painted farmhouse self-catering kitchen with an electric two oven Aga, four ring gas hob, fridge, freezer, dishwasher. Utility room with washing machine, lots of storage.

KEEPING WARM: Fireplaces for roaring fires, with baskets of logs, central and under-floor and central heating throughout.

PETS: Lovely dogs are welcome, not on sofas please!

HOT TUB: There is a wood fired private hot tub included in the price.

ACCESS: This cottage is gloriously remote. It has ample parking, but very low sports cars beware, the track can be quite bumpy. It can also be hard to navigate in snow, although a past owner had no problems getting his Lotus along the track each day!

BEDDING: Bedding is provided for six guests, should you require bedding for the two additional single beds, please add this in the comments section of your booking, just so the housekeeper knows. There is no extra charge for up to eight guests at the house.

OFFER:  20% off for couples booking out of school holidays and only using one bedroom

HOLIDAY PREPARATION: We would advise to contact local amenities directly, such as shops, restaurants, pubs and attractions, to confirm the latest opening times and availability.

Haybluff House was an exceptional property. It is spacious, clean and is well equipped to entertain teenagers and a group of walkers. It was dog friendly which helped and it really is a home from home. The location of the property is very rural and out of the way which is perfect for a quiet retreat. Hide

Fab garden, hot tub and location. The pool table & table tennis are a great addition. Kitchen utensils/utilities could do with some improvement Furniture could do with an updating for comfort Overall a great week, but some small touches/improvements would really uplift the property

The location of the cottage was lovely, very remote and amazing surroundings. Very big garden with a little stream at the bottom of it. Lovely walks from the doorstep. The WiFi signal is very poor and it is impossible to stream anything via Netflix or amazon fire stick etc...! Gorgeous fire place with lots of logs left for use.

Perfect, Perfect, Perfect, Perfect. This is the only way I can review this cottage. If you love the pictures you will love it even more when you arrive. Amazing hideaway with the security of knowing the owners are only a phone call away if you needed them. Will be returning for sure.

We really enjoy our family get togethers at the cottage. The garden area is egreat for the dog to enjoy as she can roam freely & safely. The bird watching is fab, & as a family we enjoy the wood burning hot tub experience. We are a three generation group & all enjoy having pool & table tennis tournaments. The separate foot print, ie some bedrooms dRead moreownstairs & one upstairs & the two living areas give a sense of being able to spend time relaxing while others play. We will return. Hide

This is a beautiful house set in the middle of a stunning part of the Beacons, a really relaxing place to spend your holiday in. We all loved it, there is lots of space for everyone and the dogs, two big open fires, a cosy Aga and a well stocked games room. Highly recommended and we definitely hope to be back. Thank you.

Beautiful place in a beautiful setting, with ample room, a brilliant kitchen to cook feasts and a gorgeous fire to sit by. The hot tub was incredible and the views are heavenly. Worth every penny.

This is a fantastic house. The location is unparalleled in terms of natural beauty and amazing views. It's totally peaceful. The house itself is very spacious and well-equipped and perfect for two families, as there are bedrooms on the top and ground floors with living areas on the middle floor.
