Crickhowell is just five minutes’ drive away with local traders, a handy mountaineering shop, pubs and plenty of coffee shops. Abergavenny, of Food Festival fame is ten minutes in the other direction, a thriving market town forming the heart of Wales foodie revolution. Cathedral towns of Brecon and Hereford are also within easy reach, as well as Wales Industrial Heritage sites in Blaenavon. Nearby attractions include beautiful walks directly in to the Black Mountains and Sugar Loaf Mountain, cycle hire available with National cycle routes and mountain biking centres throughout the area. Pony trekking throughout the nearby Llanthony Valley, fishing on the River Usk, canoeing on the River Wye and high wire and zip wire adventures at Llangorse Lake. Leisure facilities: log fired sauna.

MARKET TOWNS: Crickhowell, is just five minutes drive away with great independent shops, pubs and coffee shops. In the market town of Abergavenny, you will find a Norman Castle, farmers markets and the fabulous Food Festival each September. Brecon, Hay on Wye, Cardiff and Hereford are all in easy reach, as well as Wales Industrial Heritate sites in Blaenavon.
WALKING & CYCLING: The walking and cycling trails are second to none, with stunning trails up into the Black Mountains straight from the door and great adventures down by the mountain stream without getting into the car. There are good bike hire options available and delivery can be simply arranged with them.
POSH NOSH: The Brecon Beacons and Abergavenny have some exceptionally good restaurants, all within easy reach. Our top local picks are: The Hardwick, Abergavenny, The Walnut Tree Inn, The Foxhunter or The Nantyffin.
PUB GRUB: Four village pubs in easy reach! The Red Lion in Llanbedr can be walked to along quiet footpaths, The Crown at Pantygelli, The Dragons Head in Llangenny or The Bell at Glangrwyney all serve a decent meal and fair brew. Any one could be cycled to, depending on your energy levels, but all are within a short drive.
RIDING: The gentle rolling hills of Powys and Monmouthshire make for fantastic days in the saddle. Head over to the Llanthony Valley to spend a day in the saddle over at the Grange Trekking Centre.
SLEEPS 2 - 5: Two bedrooms, a double and a triple bedroom, both reached via external steps. A downstairs shower room with basin and loo, a further basin upstairs in the bedroom. Pretty bed linen and soft towels all provided.
RELAXING: Open plan living with farmhouse kitchen, farmhouse dining table, two large sofas, television, dvd, wi-fi, log burning stove, central heating.
OUTSIDE: Secluded terrace and garden, with exceptional views of the Black Mountains. There is also handy dry storage available for bikes and a private woodland and glade to explore.
SAUNA: There is a rustic, wood fired sauna available to use during your stay, with Hamman towels provided and a bracing outside shower to cool off. it is shared usage with the lovely Blackthorn Cottage which further up the same hillside, out of sight.
GO GREEN: Ingenious as an eco retreat is, excessive water usage does have to considered, so please ensure you’re thoughtful about turning off taps during your stay.
CHILDREN: Will love it here, although it is best for independent children due to the external steps. There is a cot and highchair available on request. Regret no washing machine.
PETS: Two well behaved dogs are really welcome, paws off the furniture please.
