Nestled within the Herefordshire countryside with views across to the Black Mountains, this peaceful retreat is simply perfect for couples wanting to step away from the everyday and relax in style.

Eaton Bishop is a small Herefordshire village. The hut is next to the historic St Michael’s church, from which you can enjoy plenty of footpaths from your front door. Canoeing, fishing, and wild swimming in the River Wye from Preston-on-Wye (4 miles) are popular pursuits, as is the host of excellent local restaurants and pubs in the area. You can also stock up in one of many farm shops such as Oakchurch, an easy stop en route to the beautiful border town of Hay-on-Wye, internationally famous for its annual May book festival. Packed with a range of eclectic independent shops, bookshops and eateries, it’s set against the stunning backdrop of the Black Mountains that offer walks aplenty.

This stunning shepherd's hut is a bespoke get-away exclusively aimed at couples seeking a real break from the hustle and bustle. Having left your car in the two-car bay, a pair of wheelbarrows will help you cover the enchanting 170m walk to the hut site, past chickens, and a wildflower garden, all helping you leave one world behind whilst you enter another, with a stunning hut site and wonderful views to welcome you. Comprising a beautiful and luxurious custom-built Shepherd’s hut, complete with a king-size bed, en-suite shower, and WC, plus a small open-plan living and kitchen area with a sofa, it enjoys far-reaching 270º views of the Wye Valley, the Black Mountains and the distant Malvern Hills, exclusively set within its own three-acre pasture with only the sheep and wildlife for neighbours. Alongside the Shepherd’s hut you’ll find ‘The Trough’, an additional hand-crafted hut designed to spoil guests with further living space that makes the best of the views to the west and some of the region’s finest sunsets. Complete with a wood burner (logs provided), a handmade kitchen with a copper sink and a full-sized electric cooker, its cosy feel and comfy armchairs make it the perfect retreat, either at the end of a busy day sightseeing, adventuring in the hills, or paddling on the river Wye. Alternatively, just come and crash out with a pile of books or just enjoy the views and birdsong.

A generous firepit where alfresco dining awaits on dry days, but if the weather’s closing in just relax and enjoy the magic of settling down in the Trough to unwind and dine away the hours. Wifi is offered throughout, complimentary wood for the firepit, and torches are provided upon arrival should you need them.

Just had a really amazing 3 night stay here. From before the moment, we arrived the attention from the hosts were lovely. On arrival (which was later than anticipated) we found a warm welcome from the owners. Being taken past the chickens to the Hut and Trough that would be our home and lounge for the next few days. What can I say the online picturRead morees really dont do it justice. The views all around are beautiful and ever-changing as the day progresses. On top of that everything has been thought of. The welcome basket was lovely with local produce, the extras all being environmentally friendly - beeswax wraps, paper sandwich bags, goat soap, shampoos etc. a great stocked kitchen with veg steamers and egg cups - something we always struggle finding in self-catering! Oh and USB plugs - we always forget the charger plug so you saved us there!! On our first night, we cooked a proper meal in the full-sized oven in the trough and ate our dinner watching the sun set with a glass or two of chilled wine - the only concern was where were the table mats - worried about marking the table with our hot plates. Saturday we visited Hay on Wye - what a delightful village - book lovers beware youll never leave! We then followed a recommendation and went to the Yew Tree for a lovely meal - steak pie and chips followed by old skool puddings of Jam roly poly and sticky toffee pudding. Delicious. Sunday after another recommendation we did a trail run along Hay Bluff to Lord Herefords Knob circular route. An amazing 10km of views to die for, wild ponies, sheep and even being chased by a swarm of bees!! And to finish off our last evening we cooked ourselves a Sunday roast. Thank you Tania, Jules, Jack and the chickens (for breakfast) for a wonderful peaceful stay and for helping us with any queries that we had. We will definitely be returning.. Hide
