The quaint and bustling community village of Staunton has an enviable position making it an excellent base for exploring the Forest of Dean,  Wye Valley and Welsh Borders. Nestled in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, surrounded by countryside with many well marked footpaths to guide you through the stunning scenery, including the Meend circular route with Moorland ponies and views across the Brecons. For the more adventurous among us there is rock climbing and canoeing at Symonds Yat which is walkable through the historic woodland with a lunch at the Saracens Head, Go Ape at Mallards Park and ample mountain biking routes around the Forest of Dean and the Black Mountains across the Welsh border. It is a location that is great all year round with a vibrant events calendar to include the Hay on Wye Literary Festival, Abergavenny Food Festival and the Cheltenham Jazz Festival to name but a few. Also within an hours drive are the bustling cities of Bristol and the Historic Spa town of Bath, with lots to see and do including the SS Great Britain and the famous Bath Spas, as well as easy access to both Chepstow and Cheltenham racecourse and the heart of The Cotswolds.

Your journey starts at the garden gate of this picturesque Grade II listed cottage, a simple porch covers the pale green door, and as you step inside you will be welcomed by the both classic and timeless interior of the kitchen/diner. Simply brimming with character and original features to include the exposed beams and fire place with a mantle hosting a colourful selection of jugs. The dining area with a traditional table and school room chairs enhanced by the simple arm chair and farm house dresser, the original windows offer views onto the front gardens and when the evening draws in you can simply close the original wooden shutters. The kitchen boasts the same traditional style though well–equipped with electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washer/dryer. And when dinner is done step down into the lounge for a cosy evening with family or friends, light the wood burner and enjoy a movie on the TV/DVD, or for summer evenings simply open the French doors onto a private courtyard. When it’s time for bed, climb the stairs where you will find a room fit for a king with an ornate four poster bedroom. There is also a bathroom with claw foot bath and WC on this floor. Heading up to the second floor there is a double bedroom with additional day bed with stunning views onto the valley with en-suite shower room and WC.

WHAT OUR GUESTS SAY

Jacquie, 8th February 2019

Beautiful cottage and great location to explore the area every thing was perfect, area was peaceful and quiet even though located on a busy road. Idyllic can't stop telling all our friends... historically we go to Stowe annually so definitely would visit Gloucestershire again.

Ellie, 25th November 2018

The property was just perfect, a true home from home. Little touches of luxury were everywhere, including dog bowls and towels. We will definitely go back!

Sarka, 16th November 2018

For our November break this cottage was perfect. The Forest of Dean is basically at your doorstep, after a nice walk, we opened the fire and got cosy on massive sofas in the lounge. The kitchen is fully equipped and cooking was easy but the local pub (5 min away) serves good food and wine, so we didn't feel the need to cook every day. The cottage hRead moreas got a good vibe, the owners take good care, there were several things, we particularly appreciated; the stair gate, doggy towels. Hide

Lynn, 2nd November 2018

Perfect stay in a lovely cottage, everything we would need provided and decorated to a very high standard. Larger than we thought and always lovely and warm on cold November mornings.

Simon, 26th October 2018

This cottage was gorgeous, and immaculately clean had everything you could want our Daisy Doberman loved it too, every time you came in it was lovely and was just perfect and snuggly everything has been thought of

Jim, 12th October 2018

Perfect!

Kelly, 28th September 2018

Beautifully restored cottage in a great position for exploring the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire and Monmouthshire. We took our two dogs and walked for miles everyday in every direction where the views were amazing. Would go back in a heartbeat.

Anne, 3rd September 2018

Church Farm Cottage was everything we expected. Old world charm but with all modern conveniences. The gardens were pretty and the Cottage decorated and furnished in keeping with its heritage. David and Nicky were perfect hosts. What more can I say but perfect.

Claudia, 24th August 2018

We can truly recommend this place, hence the cottage indeed in nature is even more beautiful than on the photos. :) Claudia & Bernd from Germany

Martin, 17th August 2018

We (two couples aged 55-60) really enjoyed our week long holiday at Church Farm Cottage. This lovely cosy, pet friendly cottage was beautifully and tastefully decorated and equipped ensuring a comfortable and stress free break. It is well situated in the lovely Wye Valley with many interesting walks from the door. Great grub available at the White Read moreHorse Inn just a few minutes walk away, but best book a table to avoid disappointment. Hide

Dean, 27th July 2018

Location (centre of Forest of Dean) together with the quality of the cottage made this a great break. Dogs had a great week with multiple walks at the doorstep. Would highly recommend.

Eric, 29th June 2018

The cottage and location is excellent. However the cottage is not suitable for people who have difficulty with stairs. The stairs to the second floor bedroom are very steep and tall people can hit their head on the beam at the start of the stairs

Margaret, 15th June 2018

Church Farm Cottage is gorgeous. It has been furnished with style, comfort and love to create a beautiful stylish, traditional but homely cottage in a perfect location The information pack was excellent ( as were the welcoming chocolate brownies!) Extremely high standard of cleanliness too. We had a wonderful holiday .
