With some of Europe's most interesting and challenging cave networks on your doorstep, Sycamore Barn is perfect for the more adventurous guest. With countless walking and cycling trails nearby and a location deep inside the International Dark Sky Reserve, the options are plenty for active days and evenings spent staring up into the sky. On more relaxing days why not explore the picturesque town of Crickhowell for its excellent local produce, pubs and restaurants. For a traditional family day out there are many attractions you will want to visit including: The Big Pit National Coal Museum, Blaenavon Iron Works and Abergavenny Castle and museum.

The building is perfectly situated, with a garden that is private and enjoys a vista encompassing over 200 square kilometres of the national park, across the beautiful Usk valley to the Black Mountains and beyond. Indoors, the barn has been furnished with natural materials and fabrics that complement the thick stone walls and oak lintels to create a cosy retreat with an atmosphere of tranquillity and natural peace. Enter the barn via a well-equipped galley kitchen with electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. There is a shower room just off the kitchen. A couple of steps up from the kitchen is a modern open plan living area with newly installed log burner, and spiral stair access to the bedrooms. Furnished with comfortable sofas and finished thoughtfully with colourful cushions and throws, you will find the perfect setting for a cosy night in with a good movie, and space for enjoying a hearty supper after a day’s exploring the National Park. Climb the spiral staircase to the first floor where you will find a twin room with en-suite bathroom. A further climb to the second floor where you will find an inviting king-size bedroom within the eaves enjoying stunning views from the skylights.

There is a generous stone patio from which to enjoy the views, with heavy oak garden furniture and a BBQ. When the sun goes down you can stretch the evening out around the fire pit, the only sounds being the crackle of the fire and the calling of lambs in the fields in the springtime. There is also a huge area of open access behind the barn which has opportunities for cycling and horse riding, as well as much to interest the amateur naturalist.

Cosy cottage in the most beautiful location with far reaching views across the Brecon Beacons surrounding Crickhowell. Many lovely walks on the doorstep but the footpaths can be steep and challenging in places. if you are looking for an isolated property with perfect views then I can't recommend this place enough. There are great walks from the doorstep on the Mon & Brec Canal. There is also a great little town that is approx. 45 min walk away - Crickhowell. I would recommend "The Bear" & " The Britannia" pubs, - both dog friendly. There is a one single nRead morearrow track to the property which is not great for walking on! Really enjoyed the outdoor space but it was little unkept and need some TLC. Hide

Had a wonderful time at Sycamore Barn! Spacious yet very cosy, well equipped kitchen and spectacular views from all angles. We had great fun with the telescope on a clear night in what we found out was a dark sky reserve area! And some very friendly sheep coming to visit us from next door's field! We had torrential rain for the first 36 hours, with thick cloud, so no views, we still loved it, so warm and cosy, then the clouds lifted to stunning vistas and we walked into Crickhowell for lunch and later were up on the escarpment with the ravens and buzzards. Amazing location. Stunning views. Very peaceful, special feel to the Barn. Only downside for us, was having a small dog & toddler which was fine in the barn- but we were not safely able to go walking from the barn with the pram, as the surounding lanes are narrow, singletrack lanes, so we drove everywhere- which was fine for us. There's a fantasticRead more heating system and a well equiped kitchen, with thoughtful supplies on arrival too, thank you for the biscuits! The baby loved them! Hide

Amazing location, views and everything about the place we loved. Challenging walk to and from the barn from crickhowell but definitely worth it and the children did it without much complaint. Will be certainly visiting again.

We loved the cottage in such a lovely location, with comfy bed and fire pit with stunning views. Superb quiet/private location up a steepish hill with seriously good views. It's approx half hour walk from Crickhowell village but using the picturesque canal towpath it is very pleasant. Very nice village with all you could need there. A great part of the country for lovers of the countryside.
