This converted stone barn is just a mile away from the border village of Grosmont which was once described by the Welsh writer Jan Morris as ‘The most beautiful village in Britain’.

A natural colour-scheme flows throughout this building from the outside in. Step through the large glazed doors into a warm and welcoming sitting room with exposed stone walls, a travertine limestone floor and contemporary furnishings. The relaxing energy that emanates from the thoughtful and gentle décor continues throughout. Centrally heated throughout with underfloor heating downstairs, evenings in with friends and family can be made even cosier by stoking up the large wood burner in the substantial inglenook fireplace. Your first basket of wood is complimentary.

Across the hall and down some steps lies the kitchen with a lovely oak table that creates a fabulous space for entertaining. The kitchen is very well-equipped and amply meets the needs of any aspiring chef. There is an electric oven and hob, a microwave, a fridge/freezer and a handy dishwasher. Chunky stable doors open out into the neat private courtyard outside with a table and chairs.

Longer stays always gather laundry, so also on the ground floor is the utility room complete with washing machine, plus a shower room with WC.

After a long day exploring, the upstairs master bedroom provides a huge, airy and open space in which to wind down and recharge. There is a choice of reclining options with a king-size bed, a luxurious contemporary chaise longue and sofa. Across the hall the relaxing wood and monochrome palette continues in to the double room and the bunk bed room. All of the bedrooms are sympathetic to the building’s origins with oak floors and exposed beautiful beams and enjoy stunning views across the rolling Monmouthshire countryside.

You can even have a bath with a view. Soak up the landscape of the Welsh hills covered in bubbles within the sanctuary of the family bathroom.

Outside, the private courtyard is perfect for entertaining and there is a charcoal-fired BBQ. Children can enjoy a bit of authorized scrumping whilst exploring the owners' nearby orchard amid 10 acres and further facilities for muddy adventurers can be found in the boiler room next door. There’s a tumble dryer, a butler’s sink for washing muddy boots and space for bicycle storage and walking kits. There is parking for two cars close to the barn entrance.

We are just back from a wonderful stay in Wales. The barn is in a beautiful location in lovely grounds. Our children enjoyed playing in the gardens and brook. The barn has everything you need, the warm floors and log burner were much appreciated in the cold weather. We did lots of walks from the barn and enjoyed Abergavenny.
