We love a stay where it feels totally off the beaten track, yet in reality it's really very easy to get back to the real world, find the shops and stroll to the pub, this property pulls this off with ease!

Hidden away in a wooded valley, the setting is breathtaking & the Shack has its own story to tell. Originally a writers cabin, the book, "The Man Who Made things out of Trees" saw owner Rob cut down a native Ash Tree to discover just how many things could be made from this marvellous tree (44 it happens!). Many of the things made, can be found within the structure of the property today, as well as lashing of home comforts and stylish touches, courtesy of Rob's wife, artist Vicks.

The outside space is fantastic and includes a huge oak deck for lazing and lounging, perfect for barbeques and toasting marshmallows, complete with table and chairs for dining under the tree canopy. The hammock by the stream is there for lazy afternoons with a book and a glass of something chilled. Throughout the woodland, which is private to you alone, there are handy piles of firewood and a number of native birds which can be seen and heard throughout the day.

Inside the Shack, there's a cosy sofa for two, nestled by the wood burning stove, with jolly blankets and bright coloured dining chairs overlooking the woodland. The kitchen has been handbuilt, with several items from Rob's tree to be found, as well as being well kitted out with a proper fridge, electric cooker, pots and pans etc.

The bedroom is intimate and romantic, with proper double bed, hand made wooden panelling and hanging rails made from the branches of Robs tree. There's a proper shower with hot and cold running water, as well as a basin and loo, with towels and soap included. The indoor space has been designed to take full advantage of the setting, with large windows bringing as much of the outside in as possible.

The Shack treads lightly with its eco footprint, however unusually for a glamping site, it does have mains electricity, so charging iPads etc. is really very easy, there are board games and plenty of holiday reads available too.

An incredible romantic setting, surrounded by native trees, birdsong and the hills of the Brecon Beacons National Park...utter bliss!

WALK TO THE PUB : The Crown at Pantygelli, is the local, with a good reputation, it's within 20 - 30 minutes walking distance of the Wood Shack, or just five minutes in the car.

TAKE A HIKE : Stunning trails right from the Wood Shack door. Walk the Sugar Loaf Mountain, which is just across the lane, or stride out into the Brecon Beacons National Park, or Wye Valley, both in very easy reach.

PEDAL AROUND : Once home to the National Road Championships, there are exceptional road trails and mountain biking within the area, with nearby MBT centres and great local bike hire companies who will deliver a bike to the door. If owner Rob is around he's a very keen cyclist and can certainly point you in the right direction for a great day in the saddle.

PONY POWER : The Black Mountains are home to a few very good pony trekking centres, as well as more formal riding lessons being available at the local riding school, less than 10 minutes drive away.

POSH NOSH: Some stunning Michelin starred restaurants and chefs are close at hand, choose from The Walnut Tree Inn, The Crown at Whitebrook, The Hardwick to name just a few. High tea at The Angel Hotel in Abergavenny is also delicious and great for a birthday treat, with champagne also on offer!

TOUR THE TOWNS: Farmers markets and a great September food festival in nearby Abergavenny. Mountain town of Crickhowell is within easy reach and good for stocking up on local fayre at the butchers, or maps at the Mountain Shop. The historical city of Hereford with Cathedral and Mappa Mundi and Hay on Wye are both good for day trips, Hay has become world famous for its numerous second hand bookshops and annual Hay Festival.

SLEEPS 2 : Designed just for two, with double bed, decent mattress and proper bed linen, which is provided.

RELAXING : Cosy living space, with kitchen, dining table overlooking the deck area and sofa. Wood burning stove and a plentiful supply of logs. Unusually for a Glamping site, there is electricity, so electric lights and normal plug sockets are in situ...plus candles too for the romantic in you!

COOKING : Handbuilt kitchen with fridge, electric cooker and small hob, sink. Equipped with all the crockery and cutlery you should need, plus handy washing up liquid, salt, pepper etc. provided.

KEEPING CLEAN : Separate shower room with hot and cold shower, towels and soap included, loo and basin. The loo is composted, although impressively clean and civilised!

OUTSIDE SPACE : Oak deck area with outside furniture, hammock, chiminea and geneous supplies of logs. Stunning surrounding woodland for your private use. Parking for one car.

As i mentioned above a lot of love must have gone into the build and the location...... Having just the basics was perfect for us and having no WiFi did it for us. Utterly blissful stay in a secluded and magical setting, with the stream and the birds outside and an amazingly effective combination of woodstove and superb insulation indoors. When it was rainy we stayed in and read; in the sunshine we lazed around on the deck and in the hammock and read some more; and on a clear night we were awed by the brightnRead moreess of the stars. We had a wonderful stay at the Woodshack. It was a real treat to hideaway from the world and listen to the running water in the brook at the bottom of the wood. A very cosy escape!
