Big skies and wide reaching views of undulating fields and stunning Monmouthshire countryside, Fox and Hounds is an oasis of calm in an area teaming with natural beauty, with plenty of great activities and days out in very easy reach.

A gorgeous two-bedroom cottage, it has been stylishly restored as a calm and characterful retreat, idyllic for a romantic weekend, or base for the family holiday. Step through the door into a warm and soulful oak beamed dining room, toasty feet on arrival courtesy of the under floor heating. Sneak a peek at the wood burning stove warming the neighbouring sitting room, perfect for relaxing with a glass of red once you've explored.

Light floods through from the large windows at the rear, with well-equipped kitchen and light, bright bathroom flanking the stairs. Follow on up to the two bedrooms, a king-size en-suite and a family twin, which can easily be extended to sleep a third child if required.

Dogs are very welcome and will love it, babies and children catered for, with family games, handy cot and highchair. The garden is newly fenced and dog proofed, with outdoor furniture including firepit and bbq for the summer months, great for kicking back and taking in the views. There is a handy boot room, with washing machine, dryer and plenty of space for paws to be dried off and bikes to be stored.

From the door you can walk for miles, the Star Pub is an obvious destination for a pub lunch, or take a moment of quiet reflection at Kilgwrrwg, an ancient local church only accessible by foot.

Sitting between the beautiful Brecon Beacons and River Wye, with the Black Mountains in easy reach there are bluebell trails, medieval castles, Roman ruins and of course a fair number of gently bleating sheep to more than entertain you for a week or two.

A wonderful stay we loved it and are already looking forward to returning. The cottage itself is a real gem. It was spotlessly clean both inside and out, with a beautifully considered interior that blends original character with modern touches in just the right way. The kitchen is fully equipped, the water pressure in the shower is genuinely imprRead moreessive, and the wood burner added a lovely sense of warmth and cosiness that really made the evenings. Parking is secure and easy, which is always reassuring. A word to the wise on the remote setting which, to be clear, is part of the charm. You are surrounded by peace and quiet, with nothing but the sounds of sheep and birdsong for company, and the views from every angle are simply stunning. That said, popping out for forgotten supplies isn't quite as straightforward as in more built-up areas, so it's worth arriving well prepared. If you're planning to cook, bring your oil, seasoning, and any other store cupboard staples you'd reach for at home. The cottage has a French press, so don't forget your coffee and make sure you've packed all the toiletries you'll need (hand soap is provided). Think of it less as a lack and more as an invitation to slow down and settle in from the moment you arrive. On the plus side, there is a petrol station nearby, so at least fuel is one less thing to worry about. The location is also brilliantly placed for exploring the valley walking trails, sights of interest, and beautiful countryside are all within easy reach. A genuinely lovely place to stay. Highly recommended. Hide

This cottage is glorious. Sadly, we only had a couple of nights but could have happily moved in permanently due to how well furnished it was. Was it expensive? Yes. Was it worth it? Absolutely! We have come home more refreshed than we have felt in years.

Me and my two dogs had a great stay - enclosed garden, nice walks from the doorstep, and generally cosy and very well-equipped. It is also very remote and my nervous dog was glad to not see anyone else during our stay. It was perfect for the peaceful, firework-escaping break I had in mind.

Beautiful cottage with stunning views, However beware it is very rural, a good drive to a shop or pub. Garden was well fenced, WiFi not great which affected the tv. The kitchen was more than fully equipped. We had a few minor issues but with a few changes it could be perfect. Based on our experience Id give 3.5 stars out of 5.

The cottage is in an idyllic location with fantastic reviews and walks. It is well appointed and comfortable. It is a peaceful haven where you can relax and chill. The local eateries are close by car and this area of Wales is beautiful. We will certainly re visit the cottage and we have recommended it to our family and friends.
