  • A fabulous location less than one mile to Offa’s Dyke for fabulous walking trails
Property code: CHL28

This property enjoys a quiet location, with easy access to the Shropshire, Herefordshire, and Welsh countryside. Whilst the property has a lovely secluded feel, making it ideal for a romantic couple’s getaway, it is, nevertheless, within easy reach of one of the region’s best-loved towns - Hay-on-Wye. Hay is, of course, famous for its literature festival and fantastic range of bookshops, however, there is much more to this rather wonderful town, including, craft shops, a range of eateries to suit all tastes, and a weekly market. Other places of interest in the local area include The Brecon Beacons National Park, Offa’s Dyke, and a variety of water-based activities on the River Wye.

This farm cottage is an ideal place to enjoy a quiet break for two. The single-storey property is accessed via two steps (although easy, level access is available if required) which bring guests directly to the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, a wonderfully light-filled space, thanks to the windows on three sides. Two comfy armchairs are positioned to allow guests to relax in front of the cosy wood burner on cooler evenings and the further radiators make The lookout super cosy when it turns colder. The kitchen area, with its cooking facilities, including an oven and hob is located just beyond the French window which opens out onto the decked veranda. The property’s bedroom has a super king-size bed which can be made up as two single beds on request, and benefits from a patio door which leads out to the veranda, affording lovely waterfall views. The shower room with WC can be found located between the bedroom and the main living area.

Outside, the raised veranda wraps around the property, giving guests a choice of aspects to enjoy from the provided table and chairs. The views include mountains, a stream, the surrounding countryside, and even a waterfall. There is off-road parking provided.

We had a very comfortable and relaxing stay at the cottage in such a beautiful rural location. Each day we looked forward to getting back and lighting the fire after a long walk in the countryside.

A lovely cottage, with a fab log burner. Was great to come home to after a day out in the rain. The owners are friendly but unobtrusive. You're right next to the farmhouse so if you have any issues they are right there (not that we needed them) Really helpful directions to the cottage. Very clear. The Bothy is suited to couples or a single traveller and is fitted out as such. Everything you need is provided. The bed is big and comfy, the shower roomy and the kitchen/living area is easily spacious for two. We didn't use the log burner but I would imagine in winter it would make for a cosy night in. This is a nicely converted and tastefully furnished building, with attractive use of wood and nice curtains and blinds. It is in a hilly and quiet location close to footpaths for hill walking. The silence and views are wonderful.

A great location to visit Hay on Wye and for walking. It is very close to Offa's Dyke walk and there is also a nice walk up Hay Bluff that you can do. Stunning views, and you can park off and chill out for the time you are there.

Hideaway. A great place for walking and getting away from it all. A comfortable retreat for those that do not want internet, mobile phone coverage or television. All we could have wanted apart from slightly less rain. Boris the cat was a welcome visitor. Returned home relaxed and refreshed. Thank you

You need to be reasonably fit to be able to go walking from the cottage because of the steep climbs all around. Also the long single track road leading to the cottage is very steep in places and there are few passing places.
