  • Detached stone bothy with stunning views across the open countryside
  • Simply perfect for exploring the Wye Valley and Brecon Beacon National Park
  • Within easy reach of the vibrant market town of Monmouth
Property code: OC-74976

This charmingly restored bothy with breathtaking views of the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is the perfect location for a romantic, rural getaway. By day, immerse yourselves in the tranquillity as you wander winding footpaths and, by night, snuggle up in front of the roaring wood burner. With only the sound of the birds and the unbridled views to distract you, you can enjoy each other’s company. Despite its remoteness, you still have the convenience of a pub and a shop within a couple of miles.

Nestled into the Usk Valley, in the grounds of the owner’s cottage, this stone cottage is classier and more comfortable than your average bothy. Lovingly decorated, the dark wood of the antique furniture creates a stunning contrast with the light walls, bringing character to the cottage. Of a morning, fling open the French doors to allow the sunlight to flood the gorgeous country-cottage style kitchen/lounge/diner, as you sit back with a coffee and plan your day. Of an evening, curl up in a blanket under the stars before heading to the land of nod in your spacious bedroom with its en-suite shower room.

The stunning scenery of the AONB is without a doubt the most appealing aspect of this property, with a number of footpaths and bridleways to explore on foot or by bike. The historic market town of Monmouth (4.5 miles) is well-known for its independent shops, pubs and cafes, so could be the ideal destination for a lazy Sunday stroll and brunch. Alternatively, ponder for moment in the remains of Tintern Abbey (7.5 miles) and local castles such as Raglan (8 miles). The popular Symonds Yat (9.5 miles) is also worth a visit to take a riverside amble and woodland walk.

A great little cottage, well appointed and in a secluded location for peace and quiet but easily accesible along the farm track if one drives carefully. Many dog walks direct from the cottage but some only work if the dog can be lifted over the styles.

Love this place! Second time we stayed here and gave ourselves the luxury of 2 weeks. Lovely, long walks in the morning followed by a fire in the wood burner, red wine and thick novels after it got dark. Such a wonderful way to spend time in November.

The property is in a lovely location with fantastic views from the surrounding farmland and a nice garden. Wonderful, cosy cottage for 2, very clean, very well equipped and a comfy bed. Hammock in the garden was very nice. Set looking out over the valley with walks on the doorstep. Feels remote but nearest town just a short drive away. Out short break was very relaxing, would definitely return.
