This picture-perfect country cottage dating back to 1668 offers families an idyllic rural getaway. Situated in the tranquil village of Hanmer, guests can explore North Wales, Shropshire and Cheshire from here, with some stunning scenery on your doorstep and attractive historic market towns nearby. Overlooking Hanmer Mere, the cottage itself looks like something out of a fairy tale, so step inside and soak up the magic as you leave the hectic pace of everyday life behind.

As perfect on the inside as it is on the outside, this sympathetically renovated property is immaculately presented. Light neutral tones create a bright and airy feel, whilst contemporary touches bring it into the 21st century and original features add character and charm. The lounge is cosy and comfortable and the well-equipped kitchen has everything you’ll need to cook, with both rooms having views of the Mere. The spacious dining room has a wood burner, so you can eat in style and warmth. From here, head upstairs to the two gorgeous bedrooms (a super king-size and a twin) where one leads into the other. Completing the accommodation is a stylish shower room. Outside, enjoy al fresco dining against the unspoilt backdrop of the Mere or stretch your legs on the lawn.

Keen walkers will be able to discover many popular trails such as the Shropshire Way, Offa’s Dyke and the Cheshire Sandstone Way. All of these offer plenty of opportunities to appreciate the local flora and fauna amongst the stunning scenery. Or perhaps you’d prefer to get your daily exercise with a wild swim in Hanmer Mere itself! Hopping over the border, historic town Shrewsbury (20.5 miles) and the city of Chester (25.5 miles) are worth a visit.

It was such a lovely and comfy cottage. We had the most peaceful and relaxing time. The village shop at the corner was very convenient. A welcome cake and supplies in fridge, supplied by our gracious host were an extra bonus. Will definitely return here.

Absolutely beautiful cottage in a stunning location. The welcome could not have been friendlier. Plenty of wood for cosy log fires and the cottage is fully equipped and decorated to an exceptional standard. So many interesting places to visit, even in mid February. We had a lovely holiday at Magpie Cottage. The owner is very helpful and friendly. The cottage is immaculately clean, comfortable and well equipped. A log barning stove is a bonus. Lovely and peaceful area with a beautiful view of the Mere and right next to the post office and a little shop. We would definitely visit again and recommend to friends.
