Perfect for exploring the Black Mountains, this traditional picture-book whitewashed stone cottage provides cosy accommodation for a family or couple looking for an idyllic Welsh countryside retreat.

This delightful cottage sleeps four guests and is surrounded by stunning views across the Usk Valley and Black Mountains. It is situated in a quiet, rural spot close to a quaint Welsh hamlet and has direct access onto the Beacons Way. Thriving towns are close by, too, meaning explorers of all kinds, including those with paws, won’t be far from an adventure.

Head inside this charming and welcoming cottage that is bursting with traditional features and cosy spots to enjoy socialising, watching a film or dining together. Prepare a hearty breakfast in the pleasant kitchen which has a fantastic double oven and Belfast-style sink. Fire up the warming wood burner in the lounge and get cosy after a busy day exploring the Brecon Beacons. The house has a bathroom downstairs and two sumptuous bedrooms upstairs. A luxurious roll-top bath in the master bedroom is a real treat for late night soaks. Sloping ceilings in both bedrooms and traditional ledge and brace doors add to the character, but take care with reduced head room. Cook an al fresco meal on the BBQ and enjoy the pretty cottage garden.

The hamlet of Cwmdu has its own pub and cafe and is a great spot for walking. The Beacons Way is right outside the front of the property, an iconic walk which runs through the full length of the Brecon Beacons National Park. It passes through some of the most beautiful and unique areas of the park. Picturesque town Crickhowell is 5 miles down the road, with a further range of pubs and cafes as well as some fantastic restaurants and independent shops to peruse.

The four of us had a wonderful stay at Tyffynon which is a really cosy comfortable cottage. It is well equipped and in an excellent location for visiting Tretower Court, Crickhowell and Brecon. Lovely area with stunning views but cottage in need of some TLC. Mattress in main bedroom not great, too soft and dipped in middle. TV poor, can only watch BBC channels live, everything else is catch up only and no ITV at all. Nice garden for dogs, fully enclosed.

Location excellent with great views, large, well-fenced garden and very quiet and secluded. Liked the woodburners and the heating was effective. Plenty of information about the locality was available. The cottage was attractive and the rooms large. Plenty of space for four people and the ceilings were not low.

Great and peaceful location away from the hum drum of everyday life. Farmers arms pub is well worth a visit but you will need to book. Plenty of places to go for walks nearby. A visit to Hay on Way is a must, but go on the Thursday when the market is on. Also a visit to the Norman castle and medieval hall Tretower Court and Castle/ Llys a Chastell Read moreTre-tr is worth a visit. Very interesting. Make sure you take up the use of the portable electronic guide. Dogs welcome and they have a cafe. Hide

The cottage is situated up a quiet lane, you can hear some road noise from main road in the village, but it doesn't spoil the peace and quiet! There is a camp site nearby, again no issues! The views are amazing and seeing Red Kites flying by was a real treat! We had a wasp problem which was dealt with promptly by the owners, which was great! The gaRead morerden is secure for dogs which is important. Overall, a chilled relaxed place to stay. Hide
