Forming part of an award-winning mill conversion, this sympathetically finished three-storey town house is nestled in the rugged Clydach gorge, yet is just 200 metres from Gilwern village centre.
Wake up and say ‘bore da’ to the beautiful sound of rushing water in this spectacular former textile mill. The property enjoys an idyllic location and has a fabulous array of walks from its doorstep, including along the picturesque Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal or through the dramatic Clydach Gorge. You’ll also be just 4.5 miles from the foodie capital of Abergavenny. The holiday home sleeps four guests – perfect for a small family or couples – and has a stunning lounge on the second floor overlooking the river, where you may spot a kingfisher or an otter, as well as a private terrace.
The three-storey property opens into a spacious kitchen/diner. This welcoming space has a stylish breakfast bar and dining table, as well as additional comfortable seating, making it a great place for socialising. Heading upstairs, discover an impressive lounge with retro-style furnishings and an elegant Juliet balcony over the river. This room, again, has ample seating for everyone to spread out. Relax in the low slung seating area, whether you want to watch a film on the TV, curl up with a book by the window, or bring along your vinyl which could be played on the record player. The bedrooms – a double and bunk bedroom – are located on the second floor. French doors lead from the lounge to a shady terrace, which is a lovely space to unwind on a hot day. There’s also a sunny seating area to the front of the property, where you can sip a morning coffee whilst listening to the river passing by and birdsong.
The area is a haven for walkers. Why not set off along the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal towards Llangattock Escarpment (3 miles)? Here, you can climb the limestone cliffs to admire the magnificent views across the Usk Valley. If it’s peace and tranquillity you’re after, journey to Llanthony Priory. The remote, evocative, 900-year-old ruins are truly breathtaking, sat in the shadows of the Black Mountains. A must for any budding photographer.
