This characterful property, sleeping six guests, is a wonderfully peaceful rural retreat, and less than 1.3 miles from the sea and sandy beaches of Aberdaron with its shops, restaurants and pubs. The characterful village was the last stopping place for medieval pilgrims before making what was then a perilous crossing to the holy island of Bardsey, 2 miles offshore. Modern-day pilgrims, along with holidaymakers, still make the journey to Bardsey, now a National Nature Reserve renowned for its wildlife. Trips run daily throughout March to September, from Porth Meudwy (1.7 miles) and take 20 minutes, subject to the weather. Once there, you are free to walk round the island, admire spectacular views and visit the lighthouse and chapel. For a beach with a difference, head to beautiful Porthor, known as the Whistling Sands for the noise made by particles of the golden sand as you walk across them. This secluded spot is also ideal for surfing and bodyboarding if conditions are right. Discover the fascinating history of Plas yn Rhiw (4.4 miles), a beautiful 17th -century manor house. Managed by the National Trust, it is set in beautiful gardens, with magnificent views across Cardigan Bay.

A winding path leads to the front door of this rural hideaway, which has lovely countryside views from every room. A spacious entrance hall leads to the striking open-plan living room, with fine oak floors, exposed beams on the vaulted ceiling and a striking stone feature wall housing a wood burner. Comfortable sofas, with cushions in rich colours and a sumptuous easy chair provide a cosy place to relax and watch the Smart TV/DVD. A sturdy oak coffee table, pictures and plants enhance the appeal of this lovely room, filled with light from dual aspect windows and a large Velux window. One step down leads to a sleek contemporary kitchen beneath a vaulted ceiling with exposed beams. Wooden worktops and a co-ordinating dining table with bench seating are another stylish touch and there is a TV to watch while you eat. There are three bedrooms: a twin and two doubles, both with exposed beams and a TV. The stylish master bedroom boasts an oak-framed king bed and cosy tub chair, while the other double has an elegant divan bed. The pretty twin bedroom has pine framed beds. A country-style family bathroom has a bath with a shower attachment and there is a shower room.

Outside, a garden with lawn to the front and lovely country views has a patio area with an outdoor table, benches and built-in BBQ. A second small patio has a bistro-style table and chairs.

Such brilliant value for money, a relaxing holiday, (very much helped by the sun which shone for us nearly every day, we were so lucky), amazing countryside and beautiful sandy beaches close by.
