A former slate town in the shadow of Cader Idris, Dolgellau boasts more listed buildings than any other town in Wales plus plenty of restaurants, cafes, shops and pubs to enjoy. If you love the outdoors, this area of Snowdonia delivers an extensive range of footpaths, signposted walks and cycle trails to suit all abilities. Right on your doorstep, take on the challenge of Cader Idris (0.5 miles) or meander along the Mawddach Trail (2 miles), walking or cycling the route to the Mawddach Estuary and Barmouth on the coast. The world-renowned Coed y Brenin Mountain Biking Centre is also within 10 miles, plus two glorious sandy beaches at Fairbourne (10 miles) and Barmouth (12 miles) to explore.

The property welcomes you into a spacious entrance porch with plenty of coat and boot storage space, leading through to a large double-aspect living/dining room complemented by exposed beams, an unusual curved wall, a quarry tiled floor, plenty of comfortable seating and a stone and slate fireplace housing a wood burner. A large wooden dining table and chairs are nestled in an intimate spot behind the main social area in the room. You’ll find another small dining table set in the well-equipped farmhouse-style kitchen, also complemented by exposed oak ceiling beams. Further through the property, you’re met with a cosy double aspect parlour room complete with more exposed beams and an ornamental fireplace, as well as a handy double sofa bed. Upstairs, you’ll find two spacious bedrooms, one super-king-size and one with a super-king-size zip-and-link bed (can be made up as a twin on request), which both benefit from plenty of storage space and more timeless features. A large family bathroom with a roll-top bath completes this cosy hideaway.

Outside, there is a spacious lawned garden with a stone picnic area and BBQ at the rear where you can admire the amazing mountain views. An additional separate slate slab patio area makes the perfect spot to dine alfresco. We had a most enjoyable week at Gellilwyd Fach. The house is comfortable and spacious, and the surroundings are peaceful and scenic. There are walks straight from the door. We appreciated the thoughtful and generous welcome basket, and all the care and attention that has clearly gone into making this an excellent holiday cottage one of the bestRead more of the many we have stayed in over the years. The kitchen was very well equipped; I cant think of anything that was missing, and I do a lot cooking. A good nights sleep was also ensured: we loved the luxury of the super-king-size beds and the truly palatial main bedroom! Thank you so much, Elwyn and Iola, for a lovely and memorable holiday. Hide

A wonderfully tranquil and isolated cottage, a mile outside Dolgellau set back just off a small quiet road. Literally on the footpath to Cader Idris and the beauty of S Snowdonia. Spacious yet snug, fabulous views and only birdsong and the gentle bleating of sheep to break the silence. Just what we wanted - thank you

We spent a fantastic week at the cottage and were blessed with good weather allowing us to enjoy sitting outside for coffee and breakfast. The cottage is located in an idyllic spot..quiet and overlooking a tree lined valley but close enough to Dolgellau that you can pop in to town in 5 minutes. The cottage is very well appointed and was extremelyRead more comfortable. We Were very pleased and grateful to find a hospitality basket with local fare, biscuits cheese. eggs milk, all provided. Coffee and tea Also. All in all an excellent cottage and great host Elwyn who came by to greet us and water the three resident Rams in the field in front of the house. Great holiday! I loved staying here. The location is perfect and so peaceful with the most lovely views and wonderful birdsong. Iola is a very good host and has really given the house personality and equipped it thoughtfully. Its at the top end of holiday houses and feels like her own holiday home. Id love to come back and would definitely recommend it.

This is our 9th return visit! We love it. We love being able to walk from the cottage to lakes and mountains. We love the sea air and empty beaches. We love the cosy warmth from the log burner and beautifully comfy beds. Listening to the birds while soaking in the bath is heaven.
