Set in an idyllic location, surrounded by Welsh countryside, this beautiful property is the perfect place to switch off. The spacious cottage is packed with original features and has a large lawn where children and dogs can play, as well as a pool table and trampoline to keep guests of all ages entertained. Enjoy peaceful walks from your doorstep around Talybont Reservoir or along the Taff Trail. The pretty village of Talybont-on-Usk is just 4 miles away.

The remote hideaway oozes rustic charm. After a day of exploring, return to the property to curl up in front of the roaring wood burner with a hot chocolate and your favourite book. Underfloor heating throughout ensures the property is always warm and inviting and the farmhouse-style kitchen/diner is a joy to cook in, with cute fairy lights and impressive stone flooring. From here, steps lead to the stunning lounge, where magnificent arched windows look out over the gardens. In the evening, challenge your fellow guests to a game of pool or table football. Outside, dine alfresco on the terrace as the sun sets over the mountains and toast your holiday with a ‘iechyd da!’.

The area is a haven for walkers. Pull on your hiking boots for a gentle, circular stroll around Talybont Reservoir, or head to nearby Pen y Fan (11 miles) to take on the challenge of the highest mountain in southern Britain. The waterfalls of Blaen-y-Glyn are also a must for the itinerary – they’re particularly dramatic after a heavy downpour. For a slightly different perspective on the Brecon Beacons, enjoy a ride on the Brecon Mountain Railway, which takes you on a magical journey deep into the heart of the national park. Round off your day with a hearty meal in one of Talybont-on-Usk’s traditional village pubs.

We had a wonderful family stay at Upper Caerfanell Barn, and it was better than we could have hoped for. The accommodation was clean, spacious and well equipped. The owners were incredibly friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We were able to enjoy stunning mountain and waterfall walks within a short drive from the property, including hiking up Pen y Fan. The children loved staying here, exploring nature, seeing the newborn lambs, bats in the outbuilding, and the sense of freedom. We would love to visit again! Hide

Beautiful barn conversion in a lovely location. Plenty of room for us all, loved the quirky split level bedrooms with mezzanine level all with ensuite shower rooms. Great to have a separate drying room and large utility area to keep dog in. Plenty of areas to sit outside also.
