This property enjoys a quiet, rural location, with easy access to the Shropshire, Herefordshire, and Welsh countryside. Whilst the property has a lovely secluded feel, making it ideal for a romantic couple’s getaway, it is, nevertheless, within easy reach of one of the region’s best-loved towns - Hay-on-Wye. Hay is, of course, famous for its literature festival and fantastic range of bookshops, however, there is much more to this rather wonderful town, including, craft shops, a range of eateries to suit all tastes, and a weekly market. Other places of interest in the local area include The Brecon Beacons National Park, Offa’s Dyke, and a variety of water-based activities on the River Wye.

This farm cottage is an ideal place to enjoy a quiet break for two. The single-storey property is accessed via two steps (although easy, level access is available if required) which bring guests directly to the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, a wonderfully light-filled space, thanks to the windows on three sides. Two comfy armchairs are positioned to allow guests to relax in front of the cosy wood burner on cooler evenings and the further radiators make The lookout super cosy when it turns colder. The kitchen area, with its cooking facilities, including an oven and hob is located just beyond the French window which opens out onto the decked veranda. The property’s bedroom has a super king-size bed which can be made up as two single beds on request, and benefits from a patio door which leads out to the veranda, affording lovely waterfall views. The shower room with WC can be found located between the bedroom and the main living area.

Outside, the raised veranda wraps around the property, giving guests a choice of aspects to enjoy from the provided table and chairs. The views include mountains, a stream, the surrounding countryside, and even a waterfall. There is off-road parking provided.

This was my second visit to The Lookout. It feels like quite an adventure coming to this remote spot, which is really 'off the beaten track'. It's the perfect location for walking in the Black Mountains and visiting Hay-on-Wye. The cottage was clean and had everything I needed, including some wood for the log burner.

Fabulous bothy in the beautiful countryside. Very remote and charming, totally relaxing. Bonus was proximity to Offa's Dyke and walkable to Hay on Wye. Penny and her son extremely helpful and very accommodating. Plan to return.

A microwave would have been helpful otherwise kitchen and utensils were adequate and in good order. Clean towels would have been appreciated but am sure we could have asked for these. Bed was extremely comfortable and shower was great. Loved the wood burner made the cottage cosy. Maybe some more homely touches could have been added I.e. pictures, oRead morernaments etc. but Realize this is down to personal preference. Otherwise lovely cottage out in lovely countryside. Hide

This cottage is lovely and set in a beautiful location. In the heart of a working farm its lovely to meet the dogs, Borris the cat, hens and of course the sheep. Penny and her sons are very friendly and helpful without being intrusive. All in all a lovely peaceful stay.

The Lookout is in a superb location for walking with Hay Bluff close by. There are many different footpaths and you can walk to Hay on Wye using different routes, all with beautiful views. You have everything needed to make great meals. Comfy bed and spacious shower. The property is small but feels spacious because it is uncluttered and has high ceRead moreilings. The weather was perfect for sitting on the decking and watching the sunset. Special mention for Boris the cat who is gorgeous. Hide

The cottage was perfect for me and the location was excellent for walking in the Black Mountains. The cottage was clean and comfortable & it was a treat to have the log burner for chilly evenings. Really useful to have the option for a shorter stay. I would certainly return.

We had a very comfortable and relaxing stay at the cottage in such a beautiful rural location. Each day we looked forward to getting back and lighting the fire after a long walk in the countryside.

A lovely cottage, with a fab log burner. Was great to come home to after a day out in the rain. The owners are friendly but unobtrusive. You're right next to the farmhouse so if you have any issues they are right there (not that we needed them) Really helpful directions to the cottage. Very clear. The Bothy is suited to couples or a single traveller and is fitted out as such. Everything you need is provided. The bed is big and comfy, the shower roomy and the kitchen/living area is easily spacious for two. We didn't use the log burner but I would imagine in winter it would make for a cosy night in. Penny was delightful and suggested a couple Read moreplaces to visit (which we did). Hay on Wye, Brecon and Abergavenny are close/ish. Brecon and Mon Canal are good for level walks or cycling. Hide

This is a nicely converted and tastefully furnished building, with attractive use of wood and nice curtains and blinds. It is in a hilly and quiet location close to footpaths for hill walking. The silence and views are wonderful.
