Property code: OC-66579

Discover the spectacular beauty of the Snowdonia National Park when you stay at this homely, three-bedroom cottage at Arthog, 6.5 miles from Dolgellau in North Wales. Up to three guests are welcome at the traditional Welsh cottage, which dates back to the 1600s. One happy hound can also join you for exhilarating walks beside the Mawddach Estuary and long, lazy afternoons in the delightful garden, with far-reaching views over the water.

Climb the footpath up the hill, carrying your luggage as you go, to reach this character-filled, stone hideaway. Let yourselves in to discover an open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner with a wealth of original features. Put the kettle on while you get settled then return to the kitchen area to make dinner and sit round the table together. Light the wood burner afterwards then relax on the comfortable seating in front of the TV or with a book. Take a few steps down from the kitchen to the family bathroom then climb the boat steps up to a single bedroom on the mezzanine level. Venture up to the first floor via the narrow, steep stairs to discover a king-size bedroom leading on to the other single bedroom. Because of the age of this cottage, some areas have limited headspace. Enjoy breakfast out in the garden on bright mornings and light the BBQ on warm evenings. There’s parking less than 100m from the property.

Follow footpaths from Arthog taking you past a number of pretty waterfalls. Pick up the Mawddach Trail from the village. This 9.5-mile route is suitable for walking and cycling and follows a disused railway track along the southern edge of the stunning estuary. Visit Dolgellau to browse in the shops and dine out. For a day out at the seaside try Fairbourne Beach, 2.5 miles away.

The area and building are amazing but the house desperately needs a good clean and lick of paint. The shower is unusable as the head won't stay in position, the grout in the shower is filthy, the plug is full of black mould and underneath the toilet seat is stained yellow. My sheets also had stains or fading and the place was dusty. It was also Read moreunfortunate that a roofer was working on the house for 2 days as the whole point of the holiday was to have privacy and seclusion. Hugely disappointed.

A gem of a place! We had everything we needed for us, our toddler, baby and dog. We loved the privacy and seclusion of Ty Coch. We also loved the personal touches like the owners folder of recommended walks (which we did a couple of and had a wonderful time). The cottage itself is beautiful. This cottage is lovely, with pleasant views & set peacefully up on the hillside away from traffic. We enjoyed sitting on the garden terraces at the end of days visiting various sites. The pathway up to the cottage is slightly arduous & can be slippy in the wet, so a little care is needed. Thank you to the owners very much.

Beautiful cottage! You need to be fit for Wales and reasonable agility for the cottage. I've had both knees replaced a year ago and I managed fine, but I'm definitely not fit enough for Wales!

This was our fifth visit to T Coch and it never disappoints. Stunning location and the perfect property for those wanting peace and solitude. If you like seclusion, peace and beauty, Ty Coch is the place for you. It also offers unrivalled access to so many walks from the door. Our cocker spaniel had the best time ever chasing his ball around the garden and watching the owls swooping around the garden at night was a treat. An amazing location! But you need to be fit to carry everything from your car to the cottage. It's a tough walk uphill with suitcases, food, and alcohol! Well worth the effort though. Fabulous garden. Fabulous walks from the doorstep.
