The property has been elegantly re-decorated to ensure that it is very comfortable and thoughtfully considered so guests can spend a week or more without wanting for anything, located in the grounds of the owners home your privacy is respected at all times.
Located in the heart of the village of Grosmont, there is a pub, post office, a church and a castle almost on the doorstep. Centrally located, it's a great base for exploring Abergavenny, Monmouth and Herefordshire, as well as having the Wye Valley in one direction and the Brecon Beacons National Park in the other. Cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy the location, with spectacular routes. The Wye Valley is peppered with Norman Castles, Grosmont Castle being one of a famous trio along with Skenfrith and White Castle.
The accommodation offers ONE bedroom: double. Bathroom: with hand-held shower over bath and WC. Kitchen/sitting room/dining room: with woodburner effect electric fire, TV, DVD, iPod dock and radio. Kitchen: with electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, freezer and washing machine. Outside: terrace and gravelled area. Amenities: secure parking for up to 2 cars. CASTLES & CULTURE: The Wye Valley is almost littered with Norman Castles, Grosmont Castle is just a stroll away. Part of a famous trio, Skenfrith and White Castle are well worth a visit too, White Castle for its impressive remaining turrets, Skenfrith for its proximity to the River Monnow and good country pub! Raglan Castle, with a cafe on site and occasional re-enactments, is a good spot for a picnic.
TOWNS & VILLAGES: Located in the heart of the picturesque village of Grosmont, there is a pub, post office and church almost on the doorstep. Further afield you'll find the market towns of Abergavenny, Hereford and Monmouth, The Coach House is conveniently approximately 20 minutes from each. Hay on Wye is a great day trip too, with 30+ bookshops as well as an annual book festival with international acclaim. For those who love interiors, Baileys Home and Garden in Ross on Wye is well worth the drive, with a great pub nearby, The Lough Pool Inn, making the journey complete!
WALKING & BIKING: The National Road Race came nearby in 2014, a tribute to the fabulous cycling in the area. With bike hire available locally and walking throughout the Brecon Beacons National Park, Wye Valley and Forest of Dean within easy reach, those looking for an active holiday will not be disappointed. From the door, it's well worth tackling Craig Hill, one of the smaller peeks, but still capable of leaving most of us breathless!
GOOD COUNTRY PUBS: There are plenty of good country pubs in easy reach. Beyond the village local which is a short stroll away, The Bridge Inn at Kentchurch is within walking / cycling distance, as well as The Hunters Moon at Llangattock Lingoed. The Kilpeck Inn and The Bell at Skenfrith are also of note. Further afield The Bridge at Michelchurch Escley & The Temple Bar in Ewyas Harold are local favourites. The Felin Fach Griffin is a Sugar and Loaf top pick, as well as a frequent winner of awards (and owned and run by the owner's son) it is giving our guests a free round of drinks when they book for lunch...perfect coupled with a day in Hay on Wye.
FOODIE HAVEN: Monmouthshire is home to the Abergavenny Food Festival, which has helped put the county on the map for being the Food Capital of Wales. Fabulous romantic French restaurant Toi et Moi in the Golden Valley is a local treasure, The Walnut Tree Inn, near to Abergavenny a Michelin star winner and within 15 minutes drive, The Whitebrook in the Wye Valley also boasts a Michelin star and The Hardwick in Abergavenny is Michel Roux Jnr's favourite restaurant in Wales...all are very popular, so well worth booking your table at the same time as your cottage.
SLEEPS 2 : (plus a baby): Master bedroom with plentiful storage. All bed linen included and synthetic pillows available for those with allergies if required
RELAXING: The cottage is very warm and fully centrally heated. Comfy sofa and armchairs, wi-fi / tv / dvd / iPod dock and radio available as well as a welcome stash of magazines and local reads to enjoy.
COOKING: Kitchen with electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, washing machine, basic included (ie: washing up liquid, loo paper, salt and pepper etc). Dining table and chairs.
BATHING: Upstairs bathroom with bath with shower mixer taps, basin, loo. Towels included.
OUTSIDE: Peaceful terrace and gravelled area with lovely views. Majestic Red Kites can frequently be seen from the Coach House wheeling above Grosmont Castle, which is within easy strolling distance - and perfect for picnics. Bike storage is available.
PETS: Up to two dogs are very welcome and are charged at £10 per dog per week.
BABIES: Babes in arms are really welcome, please bring your own cot and highchair. The Coach House sadly isn't very suitable for babies once they start to crawl - have a peek at Willow Cottage instead.
GROSMONT: Boasts its own castle just 100 metres away and 2nd Saturday in the month the local market sets up its stalls in the centre of the village.
OUT AND ABOUT: The nearby village of Ewyas Harold has one of the best village shops around, a very good old fashioned country butcher, and an excellent fish and chip shop if you're looking for typical British fayre. A fantastic selection of groceries are always available until 10.00pm from the Farm Shop at Lockes Garage on the A465 towards Hereford (even open on Christmas Day)! Baileys Home and Garden for those with an eye for interior design is near Ross on Wye. Great for a browse and also has a very good café for a light lunch.
