WALK TO THE PUB: The Crown Inn at Longtown, is the local, with a good reputation, it's within 20 - 30 minutes walking distance of Hatterrall Barn, or just five minutes in the car.
TAKE A HIKE: Surrounded by beautiful countryside you are truly spoilt for choice when it comes to walking in the area. Hike up grassy hills blossoming in flower, stride through narrow country lanes and wander past hay bales stacked high. Walk right from your doorstep and explore the beautiful Black Mountains and join the Offa’s Dyke pathway which will lead you deeper into the countryside.
PEDAL AROUND: Set into the valley, you’ll never be short of fantastic opportunities to cycle and enjoy a spot of sight-seeing at the same time.
There are a wealth of good country pubs all within easy reach. The Bridge Inn is just a short distance from the barn and is ready to welcome you with its beautiful river-side setting and enticing menu which regularly features the likes of Persian Lamb, Escleyside Pie and Steak frites… our mouths are watering already! Cwtch Café is the perfect spot to stop by for a slice of cake and a hot cup of cocoa – perfect for warming up after a day strolling the pretty streets.
TOUR THE TOWNS: Placed perfectly to enjoy the relaxed pace of life in the traditional village of Longtown or for heading a little further and exploring the vibrant market town of Abergavenny, with its regular farmers market and food festival, what better opportunity to stock up on yummy local produce to cook up back at the barn.
Crickhowell, nestled within the Usk Valley and Hay-on-Wye are also just a short jaunt away and offer an eclectic range of book shops, an enchanting history to uncover and a fantastic Great Cider Route to embark upon!
HISTORIC WALES: With the great Norman Castle gracing Longtown, you don’t have to spread your wings too far to discover a glimpse of Wales’ fascinating past. There are a number of other heritage sites speckled around the surrounding countryside including Bailey Castle and Longtown Castle – both well worth a visit.
