A picture postcard perfect detached stone cottage, situated at the end of its own private drive on the English/Welsh border, surrounded by rolling countryside and woodlands.

This luxurious 18th-century cottage provides the perfect backdrop for a memorable holiday with your nearest and dearest, exploring the beautiful Welsh Marches. The elegant property boasts extensive gardens, with ample room for socialising, and also has a whole host of fabulous countryside walks from its front door. The long-distance Offa’s Dyke Path passes just 3 miles from the cottage, and you’ll also be within easy reach of the vast open spaces of the Shropshire Hills (8.5 miles). For a relaxing afternoon, wander around the pretty Hergest Croft Gardens (6 miles).

A sweeping driveway leads to the stunning detached cottage. The property has been lovingly furnished and is full of unique and elegant pieces, as well as sophisticated period features. The cottage has two spectacular lounge areas, both of which house plush soft furnishings and gorgeous ornamental fireplaces, one of which features a wood burner. Dine in style in the opulent dining room, where you’ll find a grand antique table and floor-to-ceiling drapes to really set the scene, or opt for the less formal breakfast room. Outside, immaculate gardens wrap around the property and there’s a patio with outdoor furniture so you can dine alfresco in summer. The garden’s piece de resistance is a picturesque wildlife pond. The pond is unfenced, so ensure children are supervised at all times.

Stride out along the Offa’s Dyke Path to get a real feel for the landscape of the area. The 177-mile path criss-crosses the Wales/England border and passes through both the Brecon Beacons and the Wye Valley. Spend a lazy afternoon mooching amongst the flowers and plants at Hergest Croft Gardens. The 70-acre horticultural haven has many rare plants, trees and shrubs, as well as exceptional views towards the Black Mountains.

If you want to get away from it all in a peaceful location that feels remote but is only 15 mins away from the nearest town, then we'd highly recommend Lower Stocking. It's a very cosy cottage that we intend to return to!

This is an amazing cottage! The location is fabulous, surrounded by forest, fields and nature. Inside, the cottage was immaculately clean, well equipped and so interesting with its paintings and books. A real feel of history inside. I might have felt a bit nervous if my kids were younger though! Walks straight from the cottage and great TV receptioRead moren and space for jigsaws and games on rainy days. We had a fantastic holiday in this beautiful cottage and lovely part of the world. Hide
