Located on a pretty organic farm high in the beautiful Black Mountains, this luxurious property is very well placed for visiting pretty Hay on Wye, with numerous independent stores and bookshops and an annual literary festival of international repute. Perfect for those looking for a little bit of escapism with spectacular views, total quietness with just the sound of nature, birds and cuckoos to keep you company. Into the evening, look up to the night sky and find your favourite constellations or stars which look like bright diamonds.

The rural location of this bolthole means it is in abundance of atmospheric scenery, enjoy the sound of bird song in the morning and calm silence in the evenings and as the night draws in, the stars will light up the night sky. For the more adventurous, the National Park is on the doorstep. Explore and discover the beauty of the land, the water-streams running from the mountain, the woodland, the Bronze Age burial mount and the Medieval Path. After exploring, revive yourself by drinking some of the property’s own spring water. There is an abundance of activities, from walking, cycling and pony trekking within the Brecon Beacons National Park, to lazy days paddling on the River Wye, fishing is also available on the nearby Monnow, with day permits available from the award-winning neighbouring village store. There are welcoming country pubs and a strong foodie heritage abound in the Welsh Borders, with a wholesome farm restaurant in walking distance from the cottage, and a host of excellent eateries and Michelin starred chefs in the area along with an optional Spa service available for complete indulgence.

With a mix of classic and contemporary with its exposed beams, flagstone floors and elegant, yet deeply comfortable furniture, this luxurious property offers a wonderful and idyllic retreat for two. The lounge benefits from cosy seating and a warming woodburner, making this a wonderful winter retreat as well as a fabulous summer sanctuary. After a day of exploring the exquisite location, curl up onto the sofa and pop on the Smart TV or your favourite music on the iPod dock. A few steps up lead to the kitchen/diner, the hub of the home, equipped with an electric oven and hob, microwave, washing machine, dishwasher and coffee machine. The stairs lead to the property’s bedroom, a super-king-size bedroom with fantastic views to wake up to. The bathroom is next and benefits from a bath, shower and WC.

Heading outside, there are is an exclusive enclosed terrace to enjoy, plus a second shared terrace and lawn with flowers, a BBQ and recliner chairs where you can relish the amazing views.

SAUNA & SPA:  On your doorstep decadence, the private Spa offers a range of treatments starting from £60 per couple for 2 hours, plus a gorgeous Scandi style sauna.  Sessions may be booked and paid for directly with the owner either prior to your stay, or when in situ. 

WINE & DINE:  There are a number of good country pubs throughout the Welsh borders including The Bridge at Michaelchurch. White Haywood Farm Restaurant is within walking distance, licensed and perfect for supper.  Abergavenny has some fabulous romantic restaurants, The Walnut Tree Inn & The Hardwick are two of our top picks worth the 25 minutes drive.

WALKING:  There is some seriously fine walking from the door what ever your level of fitness, from the stunning 2.5 hour walk along Hay Bluff and Black Hill right from the door, to the wider Brecon Beacons National Park and 285 km Offa's Dyke Path, for the very keen. The owners provide maps of the surrounding farmland and good walking routes right from the door.

CYCLING:  Just as great as the walking, you can enjoy great road biking along the picturesque lanes, as well as challenging mountain routes up on the hill.  Bike hire is available in nearby Hay on Wye and can be delivered to the cottage. There are also two excellent Subtrans routes in the wider area which are well worth following.

TOWNS & VILLAGES:  Hay on Wye, with its famous Literary Festival is just 20 minutes drive away, with 30 plus independent bookshops and stores, as well as some lovely places to eat.  Abergavenny is 30 minutes away with one of the countries largest food festivals held in September each year. The Cathedral City of Hereford, with the famous Mappa Mundi can also be reached in 30 minutes & the Golden Valley is full of quaint villages to explore en-route.

CULTURE & CASTLES:  The Norman Conquest saw a large number of castles springing up in the Welsh Marches, many of which still remain in some form or other today.  White Castle, Longtown, Grosmont and Raglan Castle are certainly worth a visit for a touch of local history. There are lots of beautiful old churches and abbey's around too, Patrishow Church in the Vale of Grywnne is a particularly lovely example as well as the crooked church at Cwmyoy in the beautiful Llanthony Valley.  Guide books and information available on arrival.

SLEEPS 2 :  Large super king-size bedroom.  Babes in arms welcome.  Bathroom with bath, shower, basin and loo.  Fluffy bath robes and towels provided.

RELAXING INSIDE:  Light, bright and airy, flag stone tiled living space with wood burning stove, a basket of logs, full central heating, soft seating and dining table. WiFi, Apple TV, a Netflix pod,  DVD, sound system, great views across the hills from the sofa!

RELAXING IN THE PRIVATE SPA:  A beautiful Spa room and sauna is situated close to the cottage. Also available to book directly with the owners after securing your accommodation dates are a range of massage therapies and beauty treatments. 2 hour sauna sessions are available for £60. All bookings and payments for the spa are easily made with the owner after you've secured your stay.  

KITCHEN:  Contemporary units with cool glass splash backs and stainless steel worktops, good quality gadgets, the all-essential dishwasher, washing machine, electric hob and oven, Nespresso machine, all fully kitted out...for as much or as little cooking as you choose to do.

ADRIAAN'S DATCHA: Reflecting the idea of a Russian datcha, this newly-opened outdoor room with a library, soft seating and a wood burning stove, oozes charm and atmosphere. With wonderful views and set away from the property, feel the magic as you enter this small building. Enjoy the view, read a book or write a letter, while sipping tea by the warmth of the fire. You can now book an afternoon tea to be served in the datcha.

LOVELY TOUCHES:   You can treat yourself to a scrumptious afternoon tea for small additional cost, in either Adriaan's datcha or delivered to the cottage. Optional complimentary maid service available during a week long stay.  Helpful owners available if needed, with advice on local walks and things to do.  They will completely respect your privacy should you prefer to simply be left in peace.  Locally produced, home-made food can be delivered to the door from the nearby farm restaurant. Included at the property you will find hot chocolate and marshmallows to roast on the fire pit under the starry sky. If you are celebrating your honeymoon (need to let our bookings team know at the time of your booking) you will be welcomed with chocolate covered strawberries and chilled prosecco.

OUTSIDE:  Beautiful landscaped gardens and stunning views, two terraces with subtle outside lighting.  Outside dining table and chairs on each terrace, with Weber barbeque and parasol. One of the terraces is exclusive for the use of the cottage guests.

PETS: No extra charge for pets - You must mention you are bringing a dog at reservation / booking stage so the owner can prepare (Doggy welcome pack included).

We had a lovely short break at this peaceful and beautifully designed cottage. It was immaculately clean, very well equipped, had a gorgeous wood-burner - perfect when returning from wet walks! It is set in the owners' 70 acres of land, all of which can be walked through with dogs off-lead and offers easy access to the Black Mountains and Offars DyRead moreke. A walker's paradise. It's approx 25 min drive to Hay on Wye, albeit down single track roads. Not for the feint-hearted! Will definitely return. Hide

Beauty in the Breacons! Lovely cottage which looks out onto the most amazing views. We stayed a week here and it was the perfect setting for a get away from hustle and bustle. Here we could just unwind, walk straight out of the door across open fields just us and the dog. A magical place to switch off. Think it might have to be a regular thing.
