Crickhowell Walking Festival

Crickhowell Walking Festival: With numerous guided walks through the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons, Crickhowell Walking Festival is great for both experienced and novice walkers. Choose a route to suit your ability and explore the Welsh wilderness. The festival takes place at the beginning of March every year and is spread across nine days of discovery.

Sheep Trekking 

Sheep Trekking: Yes, you read that correctly. As featured on BBC's Countryfile you can go for a truly unique walk in the Brecon Beacons, alongside a sheep! Each sheep is fitted with its own halter and you can choose your sheep pal from a small flock of specially trained Jacobs. They will lead you across a scenic route towards the Black Mountains and Pen-y-Fan. Perfect for families, this is a special experience and well worth a try. It starts in March, but runs through the summer.

St David's Day: What a time to be in Wales! St David's Day will see celebrations taking place all over the country, from food fairs showcasing traditional Welsh treats to mini festivals and music events. Weather not necessarily guaranteed!

The lambing course, set in the beautiful Brecon Beacons, offers a hands-on experience of life on a farm, while the hedgehog helper morning is perfect for anyone wishing to get to know these adorable creatures a bit better by helping the Howey Hedgehog Rescue look after their hogs.

Food festivals galore: May sees numerous food festivals take place all over the country! With so many to choose from, we've picked three of our favourites.


Caerphilly Food Festival is a must-see event for food lovers. The picturesque high street will be adorned with over 70 stalls including delicious local farm produce cooked fresh to eat while you browse! Wrexham Food and Drink Festival is another fine choice. The event sees over 60 Welsh food and drink producers head to the traditional market town, selling a range of delicious locally sourced treats.

The Hay Festival

Hay Festival:Wales' iconic Hay Festival returns each May to bring together writers from around the world. Share stories in the spectacular setting of the Welsh Borders and listen to poets, lyricists, scientists and novelists in discussion throughout the weekend. Spread over 10 days in May, it's well worth visiting to find out exactly why this event is so special.

Full Steam Ahead!

Abergavenny Steam Rally:This unique event in the steam rally calendar is perfect for train enthusiasts and families alike! Set in the middle of this pretty market town, browse the rally's stunning show of steam traction engines, vintage, military and commercial vehicles. Kids will love exploring the mighty steam trains and the funfair, while adults can browse the food and crafts market too.
